As the approaching Summer Solstice ushers in the longest, most sunshine-filled days of the year, and summer nights filled with the vibrant hum of life, the intuitive, emotional Crab emerges from the depths of its cosmic shell to nurture us within its warm embrace. For many of us, the first radiant weeks of summer are spent with family and friends at the coast, the lake, or poolside, creating lifelong memories of laughter and joyful moments. This life-loving vibe is influenced by Cancer, a water sign associated with organic sensuality, sentimentality, and an appreciation for life's simple pleasures, especially food and family. THE CRAB
Cancer is symbolized by the Crab and its glyph depicts a sideways “69,” representing crab claws. The crab's hard outer shell and its ability to navigate both land and sea fluidly represent the characteristics of protection and adaptability. These traits are also seen in those who are born under the Cancer sign, known for their emotional depth and resilience.
The deep diving Crab’s intense connection to their emotions doesn't come without its negative side, which is a tendency to be moody and snappy (crabby!!) when rubbed the wrong way or having been taken advantage of due to their generous heart. The stubborn Crab doesn’t easily forgive or forget when their heart has been hurt. In Greek mythology, Cancer is associated with the crab in the story of the Twelve Labours of Hercules (aka Heracles).The Labours were a series of arduous tasks assigned to the hero by Eurystheus, the king of Mycenae, as penance for a crime Hercules committed. In the myth, Hera sends the crab to distract Hercules while the hero is fighting the Lernaean Hydra, the serpent-like beast with many heads and poisonous breath (represented by the Hydra constellation). When the crab approaches Hercules, the crab gets crushed under Hercules’ boot and Hera, a sworn enemy of Hercules, places it in the sky for its efforts.
Cancer may be the faintest constellation of the zodiac; in fact the Crab is so faint that you’d likely never notice it, except for the vibrant star cluster in its midst. This cluster is commonly known as the Beehive, or M44. There are approximately 1,000 stars in the beautiful Beehive cluster, which is an open cluster of stars in our galaxy. The Beehive Cluster gets its popular name because this fuzzy patch of stars resembles a swarm of bees. Being almost as bright as the Pleiades, the Beehive Cluster is your clue to viewing the Crab in the night sky where binoculars magically transform this smudge of light into a glittery swarm of stars. To locate the Crab, look first for Regulus, the brightest star in the constellation Leo, then the bright stars Castor and Pollux in the constellation Gemini will catch your eye higher up in the eastern sky. You’ll find the Beehive star cluster about halfway between Regulus and the Twins.

Poseidon Artisan Botanical Soap
Poseidon is undoubtedly one of the most well known of the Greek deities. Famously (or perhaps infamously!) known as the God of the Sea, Poseidon's domain and influence extends far beyond the ocean's depths, touching upon earthquakes, storms, and even horses. With his mighty trident and mercurial temperament, he could stir the waters to his will and generate devastating storms and floods. Much like the sea itself, he embodies the spirit of the boundless sea and its unpredictable nature.
Stories about Poseidon’s exploits abound in Greek mythology. His romantic entanglements and conflicts spanned the realms of both gods and mortals. They were fraught with drama and often had significant repercussions in the mythical world. The liaison between Poseidon and Medusa is one of the most infamous, ending in tragedy. Another of Poseidon's tales involves the creation of the Minotaur, a creature with the body of a man and the head of a bull. I’ve always had a bit of a fascination with the Moon and everything associated with the lunar side of life: water and the tides, poetry, intuition, silver, dreams, and stars. For those of us who are women, the energy of the moon’s pull is a strong force throughout much of our lives.. After all, we are governed by its tides on a monthly basis, aware of its push and pull on us through cycles and over time.
Tides are the rise and fall of sea levels created by the combined effects of the gravitational forces exerted by the Moon. Much like tides, we humans, too, have our own cycles, our own rhythmic rising and falling, waxing and waning. Mother Nature teaches us wisdom in her ebbs and flows.

Each sign has a corresponding tarot card from the Major Arcana that symbolizes some of its characteristics. The art of the traditional Rider-Waite deck is what is used to make comparisons to the Zodiac signs. Cancer is ruled by The Chariot card of the Major Arcana and is packed with symbols connected to the Cancer sign. Let’s dive into some of these connections!
The Chariot itself represents fresh starts, determination, and drive. The Charioteer himself is in a motionless state, observing the sphinxes acting as protective guides in front of him and contemplating his next move. For centuries, people have followed the cycles of the moon, using its phases to guide planting seasons, celebrations, and religious observances. Full moon names were a significant part of ancient cultures worldwide, reflecting their connection to nature and the rhythms of life. These names held deep meaning and were closely tied to the natural world.
Thunder Moon is one of the Indigenous names given to the July full moon owing to the prevalence of thunderstorms during this season. Other names include the Buck Moon and Sturgeon Moon. We chose Thunder for our Cancer Collection because it matched up best with our ocean theme! And well, as you can see, it made for a dramatic soap design!
