THE SEEDS OF THE SOL

Where myth & magick intersect with alchemy and function...

seed sprouting from black soil

As the cold winter nights signal our bodies to slow down and our bones tell us that the time has come to settle deep into the stillness, we discover a quiet magick lingering in the frosty air - a gentle hush that invites us to step into our inner world of wonder and reflection. A sacred and deliberate kind of wisdom calls to us now. Like the seed buried deep within winter’s dark soil and the forest creature in its cozy den, we, too, gestate in instinctive rest and embrace this time to deepen our roots by engaging in soft enchantments that soothe our weary souls. Here in the darkness is where we gather to hear the stories that nourish and replenish our inner garden - tending to the soil that is essential to bloom our futures.

To live thusly - in sync with the cycles of nature - allows us to evolve and flourish within our environment, rooting us with a deep sense of place and purpose, and forming lifelong connections to our surroundings. Ultimately, we ARE nature - as much a part of the living landscape as the wild creatures and plants that inhabit it. Our ancestors understood this. They fully recognized that Mother Nature sustains us and were tapped into the gentle flow of the seasons and the elements, weaving stories into each plant they harvested, the trees of the surrounding forests, and each wildflower that bloomed in the meadows. Nature was their partner in life and inherent in every celebration of it.

We, too, can be in partnership with the Earth, as steadfast guardians and stewards. Reclaiming our knowledge of the natural world helps us to rekindle these long-lost connections, to return home to our taproots and invite a sense of peace and fullness into our lives. The stories and rituals of old harness ancient magick that hums a familiar hymn which resonates within our very souls. This earthly magick is the seed of the soul.

For the past few months I’ve been busily gathering tales and folklore about the everyday plants that bloom in our lives, weaving together a seasonal repertoire of myth and magick, wild wisdom, seasonal rituals, and botanical musings that intersects with alchemy and function, to serve as a beacon guiding us back to our wild selves. The germination of this idea lies in the art of floriography: the ancient art of using flowers to send coded messages. This “language of flowers” is rooted in classic mythology, folktales, superstitions, poetry, literature, and entomology itself. Floriography reached the height of its popularity during the Victorian era when strict social structures forbade open expression of intimate messages and flagrant displays of emotion. Young women would wear certain flowers in their hair or adorn their gowns with small arrangements called nosegays, each bloom representing a coded message of affection, desire, sorrow, or even as a warning, allowing them to display their true feelings in an elegant yet secretive manner. Such was their love of plants that the Victorians turned the act of gardening from a survival necessity into an artform of horticultural passion, creating extensive and meticulously maintained gardens stocked with exotic plants from around the world and even propagated new species.

Yet long before the Victorian nobility passed clandestine love notes via bouquets, every culture had at least one plant they deemed to be sacred and inherently powerful. Many cultures from Buddhism to Native Americans believe that trees are alive with spirits/souls, stories, and ancestral connections. Some cultures even share similar stories about certain plants. Think about your favorite flower and what it means to you personally. Consider its color, shape, scent, bloom season and cycle, and any other distinctive traits that make it appealing to you. Now, think about the role it has played in history - whose ancestors may have revered it, its significance in medicine and/or magic, and the stories and superstitions that it embodies. To connect with a plant both in its physical presence and its folklore is to tap into its spiritual essence. It is an art that transcends time, weaves threads of beauty and wisdom, and invites us to linger in the quiet corners of nature where glimpses of deep truths are hidden within the ordinary.

Prepare to immerse yourself in the wonders and enchantment of a curated selection of plants as we flow through each season, month by month, honoring the sacred legacy of each bloom, root, and branch through our unique lens of olfactory alchemy, high vibrational beauty, immersive self-care rituals, and artisan skincare delights. Those who grew up looking for fairies in the nodding heads of the daffodil, made dandelion wishes, and wove daisy crowns will find resonance and connection here where the timeless wisdom and wonder of the plants converges with our craft. These monthly collections allow us to step into the rhythm of each season in a deliberate and creative exploration that hopes to capture the fleeting essence of each season’s most precious gifts. We extend to you our heartfelt invitation to join us in this timeless sanctuary of solace and resonance. May you see the magick that surrounds you and walk gently amongst nature’s enchantments.

Bright blessings to all as we begin this journey into 2026!

xoxo

Steph
