SCORPIO SEASON (dates in graphic may differ by calendar year)
SCORPIO SEASON (dates in graphic may differ by calendar year)

Scorpios are born in the darkening time of the year, as we descend into the season of Halloween and Samhain - a season of mysticism and intimacy with the phenomenon of death and rebirth - when the veils between our world and the Otherworld is quite thin. As the darkness seeps in the magick becomes quite strong, and it is those things in the shadows that hold the greatest wisdom.

Scorpio season shines a light on purity of intention - what has been suppressed in the darkness of our subconscious now rises up. The illusions that once seemed so revered become shattered and all that we once believed composts like leaf piles and forgotten bones decomposing in the rich, dark earth. It is time to face and embrace our inner shadows if we are to reclaim the light.

SCORPIO TRAITS

Scorpios are often shrouded in mystery, with layers of complexity that intrigue and fascinate those around them. Oozing with intensity and more than their fair share of confidence, Scorpios are an enchanting personality to be sure. They embrace change as a catalyst for personal growth and development, shedding old habits, beliefs, and patterns that no longer serve them with astonishing ease. This transformative journey is a central theme in the lives of Scorpio individuals (and the cornerstone of this season’s energies), propelling them towards self-discovery, empowerment, and enlightenment. Their ability to bounce back from challenges, setbacks, and even personal traumas is a testament to their remarkable resilience, inner strength and determination. They willingly walk through the shadows in the valleys of death and fear no evil.

Scorpio has a compelling presence that others sometimes see as wary, secretive, and calculating. They are deep thinkers with strong emotional intelligence and intuitive abilities, and this adds to their intense and enigmatic charm. However, Scorpios are also super curious beings, and this makes them chase all kinds of adventures and creative pursuits, often dabbling in things that others may deem a little risky. Whether it’s in love, work, or hobbies, Scorpios exude passion in everything they do. Scorpio shines as a big-hearted, loyal, lover or friend who will walk with you through the darkest hour. But, betray them, and the scorpion’s sting can be vengeful.

To truly understand a Scorpio, one has to recognize the true depth of their emotions as well as their innate ability to heal and evolve. They experience emotions deeply and profoundly, often riding the highs and lows with unwavering intensity. Scorpios are one of the most overtly sensual signs of the Zodiac and are eager to experience the immeasurable depths of love. Their commitment is unwavering, and they go after what they want with determination. When they do find the right partner, they love fiercely and deeply. But with the intensity of their emotions comes dangerous currents like possessiveness, revenge, and obsessive tendencies. When those extreme edges collide with their own innate proclivity for secrecy, they must be careful not to let obsessive elements get in the way of cultivating healthy relationships.

Scorpios learn by experience and are well versed in facing the darker parts of both humanity and themselves. However, if they only dwell in the shadows and neglect to balance that out with the lighter side, they will lose out on what their heart desires most. The ultimate lesson for Scorpios is to loosen their tight grip on power and control and reveal their shining wholeness to the messy beauty of humanity.

SCORPIO ARTISAN BOTANICAL SOAP

Our signature Scorpio bars, stamped with the constellation, evoke mysterious vibes with an intriguing, dark palette of purples, blue, and inky black. Scorpio's aromatic blend wraps warm, woodsy fir and cypress notes around a ribbon of rich plum, accented by spicy cinnamon and warm saffron. Hints of smoky incense capture the essence of this sign's autumn season. Dramatic yet elegant!

THE SCORPION

The scorpion, a member of the arachnid family, is a creature that has captivated human imagination for centuries. These insects are extremely resilient, preferring dark, hidden dens, and capable of going without food for months. The scorpion is unlikely to start a fight, but they have no qualms about finishing one, often with deadly precision. With its venomous sting and secretive nature, the scorpion embodies Scorpio’s intense and arcane personality. The scorpion’s ability to shed its exoskeleton and regenerate signifies rebirth and transformation – a theme often mirrored in the lives of Scorpios, who are known for their ability to rise from the ashes and reinvent themselves.

In Greek mythology, the constellation Scorpius is linked to the story of Orion the Hunter. According to the myth, the vain Orion boasted that he could, and desired to, kill any and every wild creature on Earth. This arrogance angered the gods, who sent a scorpion to challenge and ultimately defeat Orion. And thus, Scorpius and Orion became mortal enemies; the stars still re-enact this ancient drama, with the constellation of Orion fleeing to the west as Scorpio rises in the east, never to be seen together. The lesson of this myth is in wielding one’s power wisely…embrace the darkness in order to understand and dismantle it; utilize your gifts to transform yourself and the world around you for the good of all.

Scorpius was one of the largest and most distinctive constellations of the ancient world, its claws sprawling over what is now the sign of Libra. The constellation’s brightest star, Antares, which marks the Scorpion’s heart, has a reddish hue lending it its name, which means “rival of Mars.” The constellation has the shape of the letter J, with the curved bottom of the J representing the Scorpion’s curved tail. There’s even a stinger, consisting of two stars – Shaula and Lesath – noticeable for their nearness to each other. Look for the celestial Scorpion to be at its highest in July after dusk and before midnight.

WATER ELEMENT

ree

The four elements - Earth, Air, Fire, Water - are key components associated with each astrological sign. Tuning in to the language of the elements throughout each season of the year can offer powerful guidance for self-growth and awareness, helping one cultivate a deeper connection to the Universe and the Divine. When we honor and accept the interconnectedness of our place within the natural world and its inherent energies and influences, we can be empowered to manifest the world we want to live in.

The elements speak to the core essence of each sign, and each element influences 3 signs. Elemental magick features prominently within each Celestial Sol zodiac product collection. The scent profiles for each product are intrinsically tied to the element for that sign, with a nod to seasonal appropriateness. And every collection features an element specific product. From body sprays to bath salts, we'll have exciting new offerings every month that we hope you will love.

While it's widely assumed that Scorpio is a fire sign owing to their intense energy and the sting in their tail, Scorpios are actually a water sign - associated with dark, still waters, filled with deeply intuitive feminine energy and emotional depth, perpetually trailing their fingers in the waters of spirituality. Scorpio represents water’s transformative and intense nature - the way a trickling stream can become a raging torrent of unstoppable destruction during a storm (something we here in NC have become all too familiar with over this past year). The fixed modality of the sign lends it a certain stubbornness, while Pluto ruling over Scorpio lends a darkness akin to mysticism - think of an iceberg with its massive bulk largely hidden under the surface. The gifts of water signs lie in being acutely emotionally aware, deeply empathetic, and instinctively grasping cycles, change, and transformation, and Scorpio fully embodies all these gifts.

In elemental magick, water governs the subconscious, intuition, and emotions. Like the tides, the water element teaches us to navigate our (sometimes difficult) emotions, connect to our deeper intuition, embrace transformation, and trust the natural ebb and flow of life. It guides us through the depths of our subconscious, helping us to face our shadow self, uncover hidden truths, and embrace personal growth…all of this knowledge is part of the healing practice known as shadow work. Shadow work is simply becoming aware of what we keep hidden deep within ourselves - the unconscious and disowned parts of our personalities - and gradually healing those aspects of ourselves. The goal of shadow work is integration. The integration of the unconscious leads to complete and total awareness. To do shadow work is to bring your shadow closer to you; it is part of who you are, after all. Becoming aware is similar to seeing something that is suddenly illuminated by light. In the bright darkness of the shadow we find the treasures, medicine and magick of our rich inner world. We also find old stories, old beliefs, truths, habits behaviors and general ways of being that we will find ourselves called to release. Shine a light on it or bring it out of the darkness. Love your shadow for all it is.

Featured Water Element Product: The Oracle Bath Bomb

Ancient Greeks believed that Delphi was the “Navel of the Earth”, lying at the foot of Mt. Parnassus, a place seen as a spiritual focal point for all Greeks. It included many sanctuaries and the most prestigious oracle in all of ancient Greece, the Pythia. This is where Pythia, the high priestess, uttered divine advice to mortals who travelled from across the world to seek a prophecy.

TEMPLE OF APOLLO, DELPHI, GREECE
TEMPLE OF APOLLO, DELPHI, GREECE

I advise you, whoever you are, who wish to explore the mysteries of nature, if you do not find within yourself that which you seek, neither shall you find it outside. If you ignore the excellencies of your own house, how do you intend to find excellence elsewhere? Within you is hidden the treasure of treasures. Oh, man, know yourself and you shall know the Universe and the Gods!

-Inscription at the entrance to the Temple of Delphi

The Oracle of Delphi was the most famous and most respected oracle of the ancient world. Gaia, the primordial Earth Goddess, was said to be the “first prophetess”, and the temple of Delphi was devoted to her. Themis, the Goddess of Justice, would deliver the oracles on behalf of Gaia. Pytho, a mythological serpent/dragon, guarded the sacred “center of the Earth” at Delphi and was a child of Gaia. When Apollo came to take over the oracle, he first had to kill the dragon in order to take possession of it. Apollo’s priestess got her title, the Pythia, from the Python.

When someone came to ask a question of the Oracle, they would need to make a preliminary sacrifice and then purify themselves in sacred waters of the nearby Castalian Spring. The pilgrims would need to walk the Sacred Way to reach the Temple - a winding, approximately 200-meter-long path that led from the main entrance of the sanctuary up to the Temple itself. The Pythia sat atop a tripod holding a cauldron above a crack in the stone, far below that crack was said to be the rotting remains of the Python. The Pythia would then breathe in the vapors rising from the chasm and chew leaves of the laurel, Apollo’s sacred tree. These mysterious gases (thought now to be methylene and ethylene gases and perhaps other hallucinogenic herbs she ingested) induced prophetic trances where she became a living bridge between mortal and divine realms. Her prophecies would be delivered in an altered voice and cryptic words - sometimes chanting, singing, or wordplay - which would then be deciphered by priests and delivered (even more ambiguously) to the visitors.

The last recorded prophecy of the Oracle of Delphi warned of silence - of a time when the sacred spring of Castalia would no longer flow, and the voice of the Divine would be stilled. For centuries the spring ran dry, and with it, the Oracle fell silent. But now, the waters flow abundantly again. The Divine stirs once more through the cracks of time, calling us back to remembrance, intuition, and truth. What will Pythia’s voice tell us today?

Our Oracle bath bomb may not bring you the gift of prophetic sight, but it's surely a sight to behold! A spherical white base drizzled with blue and purple cocoa butter "frosting" and dazzling blue and purple embeds for extra fizzy and foamy fun! Perhaps you can read your fortune in the foamy trails?! Nestled atop the indented base you'll find a sterling planchette charm and an authentic gemstone sphere. Yours to keep and enjoy!

We've scented these peculiar bath treats in a dark and mysterious blend of spiced plum, accented by invigorating fir and cypress, grounded by warm cedarwood and vanilla, and intriguing whispers of smoky incense. Conjure up some mystical magick in this mesmerizing bathing experience!

LILITH RITUAL ELEMENTAL BATH & BODY OIL  - SCORPIO SEASON

Our ritual Elemental body oils offer a unique and deeply personal method for attuning to each element and season. The oil may be utilized simply as a part of a nourishing skincare routine or as an intentional ritual to establish balance and rhythm in one's life path.

Lilith is known as the original counterpart to Adam in the beginning of creation as told by the Judeo-Christian tradition. She was his first wife, before Eve, and lived by his side. It is said that Lilith was made from the dust of earth like Adam, which is why she believed that both should be treated the same. She did not want to be submissive, she exuded strong feminine power and demanded to be treated in the same way as her partner. Adam deemed her as his inferior and Lilith….well, she refused to identify as such. She chose to defy Adam and was forced to leave the Garden of Eden forever. Patriarchal based religions slander her as a demon, an evil shape-shifting temptress, and link her to witchcraft, the devil, and destruction. But beneath all of that hateful rhetoric belies the simple fact that the patriarchy is terrified of her immeasurable power and opposition to their control.

LILITH
LILITH

Today, Lilith represents the untamed feminine, our raw instincts, and the parts of ourselves we often keep in the shadows, buried in our deep waters. She is associated with sexuality, strength, and independence, and is often symbolized by the serpent and dark moon. Her message is one of self-awareness, embracing our authenticity, and challenging societal norms. Perhaps it’s time to call upon Lilith once again to reclaim our divine feminine power and bring balance back into this off-kilter world.

Lilith bath & body oil
Lilith bath & body oil

In astrology, the phenomenon called “Black Moon Lilith” refers to the mathematical point along the moon’s orbit when it’s farthest from Earth. It represents the dark side of one’s personality and is linked to shadow work. She is the echo of what we suppress; where you were told you were “too much.” Our rebellion, our rage, our wildness, our sacred ‘no.’ We all have a Lilith placement in our birth chart. Whether you’re a soft-hearted Cancer or a stinging Scorpio, Lilith shows you the crack in your mask. Do you dare face her shadows?

Our Lilith ritual bath & body oil aromatic blend conjures an atmosphere of darkness and mystery. Spiced dark plum and zesty orange peel joins invigorating coniferous notes, grounded by warm cedarwood and vanilla, and intriguing whispers of smoky incense. Tantalizing and otherwordly!

PLANETARY RULER: PLUTO

Photos: Pluto the Planet; Pluto, 2nd century sculpture

Scorpio is ruled by the planet Pluto, symbolized by the infamous God of the Underworld (Pluto is the Roman counterpart to the Greek Hades). Pluto governs the deeper, more intense aspects of Scorpio, including sex, death, power dynamics, control, profound transformation, and all that we keep hidden beneath the surface. Despite being the smallest and most distant player in our solar system, Pluto is a force for change that can be destructive in its power and one planetary influence that should not be underestimated! Pluto-ruled Scorpios are always seeking what lies below the surface - hidden solutions and influences that others may miss. Pluto can help to bring our deepest and most buried compulsions into the light. As a truth seeker, those under this planet's rule will be relentless until they find what is real.

Before the discovery of Pluto in 1930, the planet Mars was considered the sole ruler of Scorpio. As co-ruling planets, both can affect Scorpio's personality and traits. Mars is pure yang--masculine, aggressive, and action-oriented--and these are definitely traits you see in Scorpio. Pluto is mostly yin; mysterious, shadowy, receptive, and feminine…but no less intense than Mars. Both the water element and the influence of Pluto cause Scorpio to be deeply emotional. Pluto's dark and receptive nature is also the driving influence behind Scorpio's powerful intuition. On the lighter side, Pluto is associated with renewal and rebirth. It represents endings and new beginnings, as well as spiritual growth and rebirth. One of Scorpio's most significant karmic challenges in life is learning how to balance both planetary aspects and seek integration instead of polarity between the two influences.

PLUTO AROMATIC PERFUME OIL ROLLER

The God of the Dead beckons you! Will you join Pluto on a walk thru the October woods on a moonless night? Our Pluto perfume oil aromatic blend is a masterpiece of raw beauty - evoking the rugged warmth of aged leather, the rustic earthy scent of fallen leaves, and woody balsam. A sophisticated base of sensual musk, smoky oud, and smooth tonka round out this earthy blend. Intoxicating and otherwordly.

HADES ARTISAN BOTANICAL SOAP

Hades is, of course, the Greek name for the God of the Underworld, the Land of the Dead in Greco-Roman mythology. While some modern-day religions deem the Underworld as Hell and its ruler as the incarnation of evil, the Greeks and Romans saw the Underworld as a place of darkness. Although hidden from the light of day, and the living, in Hades myths, the god himself was not evil. He was, instead, simply the keeper of the laws of death and custodian of the souls of the dead, ensuring that dead mortals who entered his dark kingdom could never escape.

ree

When souls were delivered to the Underworld by Hermes, they were ferried across the River Styx by the boatman, Charon. Arriving at the gates of the Underworld, souls were greeted by Cerberus, the terrible three-headed dog, who would let souls enter the place of mists and darkness, but would keep them from returning to the land of the living.

Hades is most infamous for his role in kidnapping Persephone and hiding her in his unholy domain. Persephone’s mother, Demeter, scoured the ends of the Earth for her daughter and refused to allow anything to grow upon the land in her intense grief. Finally, Zeus instructed Hades to return Persephone, but he secretly fed her pomegranate seeds before she left, ensuring that she would remain bound to his realm forever. Hades struck a deal ensuring that she would be forced to spend a portion of the year as his consort as Queen of the Dead. Thus, we have a “reason for the seasons” where we experience fall as Persephone makes her descent into the Underworld, and spring when she returns to Demeter and the world comes alive once again.

Our Hades bar evokes the warmth of smouldering embers - indigo and grey ashes, red wisps of glowing coals. Two bars together reveals the hidden image of a moth, a symbol of the Dead, perhaps carrying messages to you from the Underworld. Hades' aromatic palette is as dark and smoky as you'd expect. Decadently spiced pumpkin and warm cider offer familiar comfort against a mysterious backdrop of incense and woodsmoke. Transcendent and beguiling!

LEFT: Hades soap; RIGHT: Persephone soap

PERSEPHONE ARTISAN BOTANICAL SOAP

We can’t just talk about Hades without also including Persephone’s side of the story! The story of Persephone, the innocent, naive daughter of Goddess Demeter who was kidnapped by Hades and thus became the Queen of the Underworld, is the most well known of all the ancient myths. When Persephone sealed her fate by eating that pomegranate seed, forever tying her to the darkness, she set in motion a cycle on earth to which we bear witness even today…the changing of the seasons.

PERSEPHONE
PERSEPHONE

Persephone, no longer so innocent, is perhaps more inherently suited to her position as a death deity, in that she encompasses the full life/death cycle and represents both life and death - such powerful forces refined through the cauldron of death and rebirth are the necessary training ground for all true Queens. To be Queen is ultimately to know our own territory, to own it, and to face our fears of all that lives beneath the surface to no longer be a victim of it.

Our Persephone bar leans heavily into the pomegranate aesthetic. Crimson, scarlet, and ruby swirls drop in mesmerizing patterns to mimic Persephone's descent into the Underworld. Accents of gold on top bring luxe vibes to the design. Of course, pomegranates are at the core of our aromatic blend! Bright lemon peel gives way to a lively heart of pomegranate, red currant, and tart cranberry. Earthy base notes accented with notes of comforting spice ground this scent with familiarity. Intriguing and alluring!

TAROT CARD: DEATH

Each Zodiac sign has a corresponding tarot card from the Major Arcana that symbolizes some of its characteristics. The artwork of the traditional Rider-Waite deck is what is used to make comparisons to the Zodiac signs**. Scorpio is represented by the Death Card.

DEATH CARD; RIDER WAITE VERSION
DEATH CARD; RIDER WAITE VERSION

The Death Card is the 13th card of the tarot's Major Arcana and is a brilliant representation of Scorpio. It is predominantly about letting go of our old attachments and identities so that we can fully evolve. This card is a symbol of change and growth. It embodies the idea that from death and destruction, there is an opportunity to build anew.

Every ending is an opportunity for something new to emerge.

— The Tarot Handbook, Angeles Arrien

Let’s take a deeper look at some of the symbolism of this card....

At first glance, we see a skeleton in full battle armor riding on a white horse, and a dead man on the ground beneath the horse’s hooves. The skeleton symbolically represents what will remain AFTER death. And his armor reminds us to focus on what is invincible and cannot be destroyed. The beautiful white horse that the skeleton sits upon stands for purity - white is cleansing and represents rebirth. The white rose on the flag suggests beauty, purification and immortality. And the rising sun symbolizes hope and vital life force, assuring that the necessary changes brought by destruction of the old can lead to growth, renewal, and eventual new life. Just like Scorpio, this symbolism challenges us to look beyond death as we know it and focus on our capacity to rise above our pain and re-invent ourselves.

There’s some really interesting other aspects to point out here as well that are just too compelling to overlook in our brief discussion. The pleading bishop is trying to use his faith to get a free pass, but unfortunately religion carries no weight with death. The woman turning away (in the bottom right corner) represents the aversion that humanity has to death. The child represents innocence, acceptance and a lack of fear, while the dead king (note the crown next to the hoof) is symbolic of the fact that no matter how powerful you are -- death is the great equalizer. It further tells us that those that cling to power will have that power ripped out of their hands by a higher, divine force. This is a time when we are asked to be steadfast to the truth and to be willing to see what has been hidden. Those that do not want to let go of their ego and need to be right will have a cycle where they will instead generate terrible problems. Refusal to change will come with some very harsh consequences. Whew, this card is a bit on the nose right now! Just wait til you hear about the lessons of the Hanged Man card….;)

In the face of death, your perception can become remarkably clear. All of a sudden it is evident what values matter to you, what inspires you, and what beauty is all around you. The objectivity that death can provide reinforces the value of showing care to all of the people and things you love. Even in the midst of disintegration, you can use the perspective death provides to find deep gratitude.

Our Death card Smoothing body silk blend is a sophisticated dark twist on traditional fall scents!  Ripe blackberry mingles with the warm aroma of spiced pumpkin and an unexpected base of caramelized brown sugar, sandalwood, and whispers of smoke. Nuanced and compelling!

**Please take note that while our discussion points on tarot refer specifically to the artwork of the classical Rider-Waite cards, the artwork on our lotion bottles is unique and doesn't necessarily contain the same artistic elements.

MYTHS & MAGICK

FROST MOON: NOVEMBER 5, 2025

For centuries, people have followed the cycles of the moon, using its phases to guide planting seasons, celebrations, and religious observances. Full moon names were a significant part of ancient cultures worldwide, reflecting their connection to nature and the rhythms of life. These names held deep meaning and were closely tied to the natural world.

By November, most of the leaves have fallen and the world turns gray. The days are shorter and winter beckons. The full Moon of November - aptly named the Frost Moon by the Algonquins and other northern tribes - marks a time when the weather shifts fully into the colder temperatures signaling the coming of winter and when morning frosts are the norm and some of the first snow falls in the Northern hemisphere.

Physically, this is a time when we prepare our bodies for the winter season by slowing down, spending more time inside, and getting warm and cozy.

Spiritually, we begin to direct our energies inward, with a focus on reflection of the year's experiences and expressions of gratitude for the gifts we've received throughout the year and our successful harvests (both literal and metaphorical). It's a good time spent dreaming and planning, but delaying action on those ideas until the new year. Let those ideas gestate over the winter rather than trying to birth them immediately.

Our Frost Moon design evokes images of near barren fields, where just weeks ago they were aplenty with an abundant harvest, the remaining frost-touched pumpkins waiting to be plucked for your front porch. An orange-hued moon sets over the fields as a dusting of morning frost transforms the landscape into a glittering wonderland...for a few fleeting hours. The air is thick with a welcoming ambiance - green vines unfurling into a spicy, warming heart of cinnamon and clove. Smoky embers, oak and smoke mingle with the unmistakable aroma of toasted marshmallow. A nostalgic autumnal aromatic adventure!

SAMHAIN: OCTOBER 31

ree

This Celtic fire festival coincides with Halloween and is the origin for all modern Halloween traditions. At Samhain (pronounced Sow-en) the veil between our world and the spirit world/otherworld is at its thinnest, allowing spirits to make mischief. It is a traditional day to honor the dead, whether recently passed or your ancestors. Considered the witch's new year, Samhain is a celebration of transition and transformation; a time to release the past and reflect on your goals for the year ahead.

Our Samhain ritual perfume oil roller is a rich and mysterious blend of sweet orange, ginger, patchouli, clove and just a touch of black pepper in a base of mugwort infused EVOO.

Donned with a sprig of mugwort and carnelian chips for added protection during the thinning veil. OUR MOST POPULAR BLEND!

CORVUS THE CROW artisan botanical soap

The constellation Corvus represents the raven (or crow), Apollo’s sacred bird in Greek mythology. In the story, a white raven was tasked with watching over Coronis, one of Apollo’s lovers, and to report on his activities. When the raven reported Coronis’ infidelity to Apollo, the god was so enraged that the bird did nothing to stop it that he flung a curse upon it, scorching the raven’s feathers black. That, the legend goes, is why all ravens are black, symbolizing transformation and the consequences of betrayal. This tale highlights the raven’s dual nature—both a harbinger of truth and a keeper of secrets.

ree

In animal symbolism, crows and ravens are often interchangeable, holding powerful and often contradictory meanings across cultures and mythologies. Both share the characteristics of oracular vision and prediction. They are also intuitive and extremely clever. These birds are among the smartest in the animal kingdom and can even mimic human speech. Because of their intelligence, people have long seen them as symbols of wisdom and prophecy. Crows can also form bonds with humans, remember faces, and adapt to our behavior, which makes them equally mysterious and familiar.

In some traditions, these dark-winged birds are considered messengers of misfortune or death. However, many contemporary interpretations emphasize their role as guides and protectors, encouraging introspection and adaptability. Whether as a good or foreboding sign, the raven’s presence urges one to pay attention to life’s deeper meanings.

Our Corvus bar brings a warm, earthy palette befitting our feathery friends with a feather swirl! Look closely and you just may glimpse a hidden crow watching you from amongst the branches. (Psst...can you spot the witch in the bar behind the crows in our picture?!) Topped with tiny black bird skulls (soap, of course!) against a stark white background for extra dramatic effect. Our Corvus bars juxtapose fresh florals with spicy, smoky accords. Juicy, ripe pear and sweet rose unfold into a bewitching heart of aromatic labdanum resin, spicy clove, sweet tobacco leaf, rich leather, and seductive amber. Dark sophistication!

DRACO THE DRAGON artisan botanical soap

Draco is one of the largest constellations in the sky and represents Ladon, the dragon that guarded the gardens of the Hesperides in Greek mythology. We briefly mentioned this myth last month when we introduced our Golden Apples soap. One might not expect a dragon to play a role in a story about magickal apples, but this mythic dragon was one of the most iconic beasts in Greek mythology.

DRACO CONSTELLATION, SIDNEY HALL 1834-36
DRACO CONSTELLATION, SIDNEY HALL 1834-36

The myth of Hercules and the golden apples of the Hesperides is one of the most famous stories from ancient Greek mythology. In this myth, Hercules, in his pursuit of the Twelve Labors, is tasked with stealing the golden apples from the Hesperides, who were responsible for guarding a tree that bore fruit that granted immortality.

The Hesperides were nymphs - divine sisters - tasked with guarding this sacred tree bearing golden apples. The seven Hesperides were Goddesses of the Evening and golden sunsets, and were often associated with the evening star (Venus). The element of the evening is symbolic here as dusk represents the liminal space between day and night and mirrors the Hesperides’ role in mediating between mortal realms and the divine. The apples were bestowed by Gaia, Goddess of the Earth, as a wedding gift to Hera, Queen of the Gods, upon her marriage to Zeus. The tree grew in an enchanted garden at the edge of the world, the location of which was a mystery, but some ancients believed it to be on the western shore of the river Okeanos (Oceanus). The apples' glow is often linked to the captivating hues of sunset, blending natural beauty with divine mythos. Symbolically, the golden apples represent more than just fruit. They embody both immortality (the light of Spirit) and our darker desires of temptation and greed, and human desire.

The Hesperides were assisted in their task by Ladon, a fearsome hundred-headed dragon and formidable guardian who never slept. Hercules defeated Ladon with his poisoned arrows and stole the apples. Saddened by the dragon’s passing, Hera placed its image in the sky among the constellations.

Dragons are not only creatures of fire—they also have deep ties to water, intuition, and hidden wisdom. Found in myths across all cultures, dragons are powerful allies for deep emotional healing, intuition, and transformation. They can assist in dreamwork, shadow work, and energy cleansing rituals.

Our Draco bars conjure up the fiery breath of a dragon! But this dragon's breath is one you'll embrace! Swirls of red, yellow and gold on a stark black background evoke flames, while our textured tops scream "little fires everywhere". You might even discover a dragon or two hiding within these bars (see the pic!). Zesty orange peel wraps around spicy clove and warming cinnamon. Invigorating! It's our top selling scent blend! Psst...fans of our Samhain blend from the past several years will be delighted to know that Draco is this season's replacement. ;)

Hecate (aka Hekate) is the Goddess of Witchcraft, the moon and herbal magick. She rules over transitions: birth and death, beginnings and endings, seen and unseen. She is the guardian of liminal space—of what is becoming. As an Underworld goddess, she is the guardian of deceased souls and ushers them from life to death. She similarly assists in childbearing, acting as a divine midwife to usher new souls into the world. She is a torch bearer, a protector of travelers, associated with liminal spaces, doorways, and crossroads - to both protect and guide those traveling through life's uncertain and dark paths - symbolizing the profound moments of decision that define human existence. When Demeter raised the alarm that Persephone was missing, Hecate was the first there ready to begin the search into the Underworld to find her. Hecate’s dual nature as a figure of both light and darkness resonates with the notion of embracing the full spectrum of human experience. Ultimately, Hecate embodies independence, wisdom, and the ability to navigate life’s complexities.

Double, double toil and trouble;

Fire burn and caldron bubble.

Fillet of a fenny snake,

In the caldron boil and bake;

Eye of newt and toe of frog,

Wool of bat and tongue of dog,

Adder's fork and blind-worm's sting,

Lizard's leg and howlet's wing,

For a charm of powerful trouble,

Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.

Double, double toil and trouble;

Fire burn and caldron bubble.

Cool it with a baboon's blood,

Then the charm is firm and good.

-Song of the Witches, Macbeth, Shakespeare

November 16th is called Hecate’s Night. This is the night that she roams the earth with her hounds. This is also the night that new initiations are made for witches who follow her. Brooms up, witches!

Our Queen of the Witches bar captures the magick of a bubbling cauldron with a pitch black base accented with bright "bubbles" and swirls of orange, blue, purple, and pink. Mesmerizing and fun! Our aromatic palette is an intoxicating and mysterious blend of rich and smoky oud wood rising above a floral heart of rose buds, with velvety accents of resinous myrrh, sensual dark musk, and warm amber. Mysterious and captivating!
