SYMBOL: THE LION
ELEMENT: FIRE
RULER: THE SUN
MANTRA: My unique talents & gifts shine brightly!
Leo season comes in with a flashbang during the intensity of the midsummer sun. It’s when the sun shines its brightest, these hot and heavy dog days of summer, and that’s no coincidence — Leo is ruled by the Sun, and this season is all about basking in the vivid rays and embracing your inner fire.

LEO TRAITS
Leos are born to shine! Ruled by the Sun, the center of our solar system, Leos shine brightly and attract many people into their orbit, often making themselves the center of attention. They are like the Sun itself – radiant, warm, and….well, impossible to ignore, lol. Whether through their natural leadership or flair for the dramatic, Leos can’t help but command the spotlight. And since Leo is symbolized by the regal lion, you best be rolling out the red carpet when the majestic, courageous King of the celestial Zodiac enters the room. Thank goodness they are so charming and entertaining or they could be absolutely insufferable!
Leos are known for their vibrant energy, natural leadership, and boundless enthusiasm. Leadership is written into Leo’s stellar blueprint as evidenced by their confidence, determination, strength, and regal auras. Vivacious, theatrical, and passionate, Leos thrive on creative self-expression and love being admired for their talents. They particularly thrive in spaces where they can showcase their talents and inspire others to chase their own ambitions.
Big-hearted, caring, and generous spirits, Leos are known for their fierce loyalty, and there’s no better sun sign to have in your corner than the loyal Leo. They love spoiling their loved ones (and of course, themselves!). Their deep desire is to create a community where everyone feels loved, uplifted, and supported. As natural born leaders, they get shit done and they do it well. Their healthy sense of humor and fearless optimism makes collaboration with other people both easy and fun.
Generally, Leo has a bright, sunny, warm disposition, radiating warmth wherever they go — unless, of course, they sense that their light is being eclipsed. When a Leo believes that their talents and gifts aren’t being fully appreciated, or if someone attempts to outshine them, they’ll do whatever it takes to reclaim their rightful place center stage. All of that self-confidence and attention-seeking behavior can come across as arrogance, narcissism, and self-centeredness, leading to moments of tabloid-worthy ego meltdowns.
During this fiery Leo season, let your own inner fire blaze brightly. Embrace your natural confidence, tap into your creative energy, and fearlessly pursue your passions. Let the sun illuminate your path and guide you toward self-discovery and personal growth. It's a time to embrace the spotlight, express your unique talents, and inspire those around you with your own magnetic personality and charm. Take your cue from the sun and create a joyful and vibrant atmosphere wherever you go!
Our signature Leo artisan botanical soap radiates bright, bold summer vibes! A striking design with vibrant summery colors dominates the design. But the real fun is in the details! Cat lovers rejoice, as this is our first cat design of 2025 (our regulars know just how special this bar is)! One side of the bar is stamped with the Leo constellation as we've done for each of our signature Zodiac bars, but the other side is stamped with a happy cat face! A tiny paw stamped into the side of each bar brings extra smiles and joy!
A zesty citrus symphony dominates the nose - lemon and orange zest, grapefruit, mandarin, lime and bergamot (wowza!), wraps around an herbaceous heart of thyme and mint with gorgeous complexity. A warm base of vetiver, cedar, hints of pine and white musk finish this bold blend with effortless luxury. Sublime and spunky!
THE LION
Symbolized by the lion, Leos have a regal air and commanding roar, embodying their bold mix of strength, charisma, and regal confidence. Lions love to watch their mates succeed—until they feel threatened. They can become impaired by their ego, pride, and jealousy when they start to fear their star power will be eclipsed.

The origin myth of the Leo constellation is based on one of the Labors of Hercules. As you might recall from our Cancer blog post, the Crab, too, was based on a part of this same myth. The Twelve Labors of Heracles refers to a series of heroic feats, imposed upon the demi-god Hercules by Hera, his nemesis, and King Eurystheus of Argos as penance for killing his (Hercules’ own) family (a trick of Hera’s in her endless pursuit of eliminating Hercules). These tasks, often involving dangerous creatures and impossible feats, were meant to test Hercules' strength and courage. The Lion constellation is said to be the Nemean lion that Hercules fought in the first of his twelve labors.

In the story, the invincible lion was terrorizing the peoples and livestock of Nemea, but no one was able to defeat the lion as it had an impermeable skin that couldn’t be broken by arrows. It was a long and difficult fight, but eventually the brave Hercules slayed the beast by strangling it with his bare hands and brute strength. The mighty warrior used the creature’s own razor-sharp claws to cut off its pelt, taking its skin as a battle trophy. It became a cloak that didn’t wear out. The lion was placed in the sky by the gods to honor Hercules’ heroism and bravery.
Leo is one of the most recognizable constellations in the sky. To locate Leo, first find the Big Dipper in the North sky, tracing its curved handle to the four stars that make up its big ladle/bowl. The stars that make up the side of the ladle are called the “pointer stars”. Follow these two pointer stars in an imaginary line downward to the bright star, Regulus, the heart of the crouching Lion. (Hint…these pointer stars can also be followed in a straight line higher in the sky to Polaris, the North Star, which is the tip of the Little Dipper’s handle.) Regulus (Latin for “little king”), aka Alpha Leonis (the Greeks called it Cor Leonis “heart of the lion”), is the brightest star in Leo сonstellation and is a whopping 75x larger than the Sun and an incredible 150x brighter! Crazy, right?! The head and chest of the Lion are outlined by six stars arranged in the shape of a sickle (or backwards question mark). Bright Regulus sits at the foot of the sickle.

Our Lionheart artisan botanical soap bar gives a grateful nod to bright Regulus. Our Lionheart bars reflect the "golden hour"...that moment during sunset when the sun is sinking below the horizon and the sky is streaked with vivid golden hues. One bright white star steals the show from the sinking summer sun - Regulus! Our uplifting Lionheart blend combines zesty lemon, zingy lemongrass, and floral verbena with a touch of sugar for the perfect balance. Bold and bright!
Our signature Lion perfume roller is a lush citrus and floral symphony. Bright bergamot and sunny mandarin wrap around a delicate yet sumptuous floral heart of orange blossom, neroli, and jasmine. Soothing sandalwood deftly grounds this luminous blend with a soft finish. Gloriously elegant and regal.
FIRE ELEMENT
The four elements - Earth, Air, Fire, Water - are key components associated with each astrological sign. Tuning in to the language of the elements throughout each season of the year can offer powerful guidance for self-growth and awareness, helping one cultivate a deeper connection to the Universe and the Divine. When we honor and accept the interconnectedness of our place within the natural world and its inherent energies and influences, we can be empowered to manifest the world we want to live in.
The elements speak to the core essence of each sign, and each element influences 3 signs. Elemental magick features prominently within each Celestial Sol zodiac product collection. The scent profiles for each product are intrinsically tied to the element for that sign, with a nod to seasonal appropriateness. And every collection features an element specific product. From body sprays to bath salts, we'll have exciting new offerings every month that we hope you will love.

Fire is a powerful alchemical element, and it plays a strong role in the Leo personality. Like fire, Leos are dynamic, powerful, vital, warm, and energetic forces of nature. Fire is the perfect element to work with during the summer months when the Sun is at its strongest, the ultimate source of Fire.
Leo's entire “big cat” nature is fiery, and this element can manifest in many positive ways… provided it is kept in balance. Leos bring warmth and vitality to every situation, lighting up any and every room with their enthusiasm, charm, and larger-than-life personality. Leos thrive in environments where they can shine, inspire, and lead others, bringing a spark of excitement wherever they go. But when Leo's flames are allowed to burn too hot and grow unchecked, it can result in burnout, fatigue, vanity, jealousy and even narcissistic tendencies. However, by seeking to balance and channel this inner fire in a positive way, Leo can burn brightly and shine joyfully. Witchy tip to quench the flames: spend some time in nature, dear Leo, especially near water (the ocean, a cool lake or river), engaging in activities such as swimming, kayaking, paddleboarding, or y’know… whatever floats your boat. ;0
Of all the elements, fire is arguably the most dangerous, the most difficult to control, and the most volatile. But with it comes transformation like nothing else - like the phoenix reborn from its own ashes. The energy of fire is deeply alchemical; it is illumination, vibrancy, passion, creation, and initiation. Fire teaches us perceptivity - what is meant to burn and what is meant to grow. The sacred flame clears away what is not meant for us and forces us to move through the fire to the gift it promises…to what arises from the ashes. Fire is the perfect element to work with when trying to enact change, especially social change. Fire is innately associated with new beginnings, energy, courage, anger, passion, war, and purification. You can use fire to break bad habits, purify your life, ignite your passions, and incite change. Radical change, in fact. Many wisdom traditions talk about how, when we are on the threshold of a major transition, the heat is often most intense. Fire can burn things to the ground, of course, but it can also purify and transform negative energies into positive ones. It can serve as fuel, lighting a fire under us and making us uncomfortable enough to get moving and take action. The key is first not to be afraid of the heat. From there it all comes down to the choices we make about how to build and feed the flames in light of what it is we are trying to collectively accomplish. Let us feed the light with our own increasing brightness and leave behind the darkness. Illuminate the path forward for others like a guiding star.
In modern-day spiritual practices, fire is often used in rituals and ceremonies to connect with the element’s energy. Many practitioners use candles, smudge sticks, or burn incense to invoke the presence of fire. Others use fire in meditation or visualization exercises to help focus their energies and intentions. The warmth and light of fire can also serve as a reminder to stay centered and grounded during times of stress or anxiety.
Our Leo candle collection is here to help you connect with the energy of the fire element. Utilize candle magick to create the world you wish to live in.
FIRE ELEMENT FEATURED PRODUCT: RISING SUN CANDLE COLLECTION
Each of the classical elements — fire, earth, air and water — are embodied by mythological creatures that reside within them, unseen to the eye, existing on an alternate plane of existence. These ethereal entities, known as Elementals, wield the power of their respective element and are extensively chronicled in folklore and mythology. The Elementals remind us of the importance and influence nature has upon us. From Earth Elementals such as gnomes and fairies, to Air Elementals like sylphs and genies, to the Water Elementals known as merfolk, the Elemental Spirits are as varied as our imaginations.
In elemental magick, people call upon Fire Elementals due to their strength and ability to transform things. By working with certain Fire Elementals, we can spark our own inner flame of divinity, help our own magick burn more brightly, burn away negativity and dark energies and purify all that no longer serve our highest good while supplying the creative force to build the new.
Salamanders are the most common of the Fire Elementals. The word salamander comes from the Greek word, “salambe”, which means fireplace. Today, we know of salamanders as the small newts that live in wet areas, the polar opposite to the original meaning. However both varieties do look similar with their slim, lizard-like forms, though the elemental salamander lives in the midst of flames - and sometimes in the curl of smoke of a candle or incense. Their energy, just like fire, is both destructive and constructive in its expression. Salamanders provide divine wisdom and a moral compass to those who call upon its fiery energy — giving others the opportunity to embrace change, moving toward a more truthful place, and personal evolution.
Our Rising Sun candle collection pays tribute to an eclectic array of fire elemental spirits and mythical fire beasts, some of whom are intrinsically connected to the Sun:

SUN SPRITE - Sun sprites are fire fairies capable of both fire magick and solar manipulation. They can create warmth, light, flames, sparkles, and other light-related tricks. They have a deep reverence for the sun and love to play in the sunlight. However, these fire fairies are also known to be temperamental, feisty, passionate and manipulative. Having a sun sprite in your life can mean that big transformations are afoot, and sometimes those changes can come at the pace of a raging forest fire...whether you're ready for it or not! You best exercise caution when calling in their energies!
An opulent citrus blend! Luminous mandarin and bright bergamot wrap around a soothing heart of creamy coconut and potent jasmine, bolstered by warm base notes of sandalwood and musk. Mesmerizing and radiant!
FIREDRAKE - A firedrake is a tiny, almost fae version, of a dragon, small enough to fit in the palm of your hand. They usually embody flames, but when not in flame form they will play with fire, swooping and flying through candle flames or mimicking flame movements. Firedrakes can be befriended and will help with spellwork and protection.
An elegant, modern tropical fusion! Pineapple and orange top notes meld with ripe mango and a hint of peach. Coconut milk and sugar base notes round out this lush, luxurious fruit medley. Tantalizing and unforgettable!
COMET - With its glowing aura and tail—caused by the sun warming gases—a comet can be both a beautiful and auspicious sight. Through history, significant moments of change have been inspired by the appearance of comets. Long considered to be messengers of the Gods, or omens of fate, these tailed stars have fascinated, frightened, and baffled humankind since the earliest days. Some modern historians have even connected the appearance of specific comets with the development of certain mythological deities.
This rich and tangy lemon-forward blend is elevated by hints of bright bergamot and juicy, ripe blackberry, accented by sugary sweetness and smooth tonka. Sweet indulgence!
PHOENIX - The phoenix is a legendary mythical bird, closely associated with the Egyptian Sun God, Ra. This immortal being periodically and spontaneously bursts into flames, only to be reborn from the ashes again as a young phoenix, ready to begin a new life cycle all over again. This symbol of life, change and rebirth has been the subject of legends, religions and philosophies for centuries, and has inspired storytellers and artists all over the world.
A vibrant citrus explosion! Pineapple, peach, and a zingy citrus medley tantalize the senses from the get-go, merging with a tropical heart of yuzu, mango, coconut, and passionfruit. Exotic and enticing!
DRAGON FLAME - Dragons are many things, but most of us associate them with giant winged, fire-breathing serpentine-like beasts. Despite many mythical associations depicting them as savage beasts, dragons are widely known to be the embodiment of divine feminine energy, representing strength, resilience, and the raw, untamed power of the spirit. Dragons are divine allies to women, helping to restore balance and justice against oppressive forces.
Bursting with freshness, you'll fall in love with this delightful blend! Bright lemongrass and juicy lime top notes meld seamlessly with sweet middle notes of freshly muddled mint and earthy touches of sage and thyme. The fragrance is enriched by base notes of soothing patchouli and light musk. Refreshing and indulgent!
FIRE ELEMENT RITUAL BATH & BODY OIL

EOS: GODDESS OF THE DAWN

And Theia, mastered by Hyperion,
Bore Helios the great, bright Selene,
And Eos, who shines upon all men on earth
And on the deathless gods who hold broad heaven.
(Hesiod, Theogony, 372-375)
Eos was the Greek Goddess of the Dawn. Eos rose into the sky from the river Oceanus at the start of each day, and with her rays of light dispersed the darkness of night and to announce the imminent arrival of Helios, the Sun. Eos was a second generation Titan in Greek mythology, being the daughter of the Titans Hyperion (Heavenly Lord of Light) and Theia (Goddess of Sight & Clarity). Thus, Eos was sister to Helios (the Sun) and Selene (the Moon). Her divine family formed a celestial trinity that maintained the cosmic order of the universe. Eos would rise from Oceanus from the East driving a golden chariot drawn by her two winged horses. She was often depicted wearing robes of saffron or rose-colored hues, reflecting the colors of dawn. Her fingers were described as “rosy” in classical literature, representing the pink light that first touches the morning sky as she opens the gates of heaven. Her arrival was marked by the spreading of morning dew, believed by ancient Greeks to be her tears shed for her dead son Memnon, who fell during the Trojan War.
The goddess possessed numerous divine powers beyond her control over the dawn. Most notably, she could grant immortality to mortals, though this divine power often led to grief and tragedy (click for more stories!). Eos could also manipulate time within her domain, extending or shortening the duration of dawn.In addition to her celestial duties, Eos also governed the Anemoi—the four directional winds. Through her union with Astraeus, she became mother to Boreas the North Wind, Zephyrus the West Wind, Notus the South Wind, and Eurus the East Wind. These winds helped her spread the morning light and dew across the world, ensuring that dawn reached every corner of the earth.

The symbolism associated with Eos carried deep meaning in ancient Greek culture. The morning dew was her gift to the earth, providing essential moisture for plants and crops. Farmers relied on her appearance to begin their daily tasks, while sailors used her position to navigate the Mediterranean waters. Her daily renewal of the world represented hope and new beginnings, while her eternal youth symbolized the constant renewal of time itself. Her role as a bridge between night and day made her a powerful symbol of transition and change.
Our Eos ritual bath & body oil blend is a bright and spicy citrus medley that gives allll the sunny vibes! Luscious lemon and orange notes offer generous joyfulness wrapped around an herbaceous medley of summer herbs, bolstered by warm, spicy ginger. Rise & shine!
PLANETARY INFLUENCE: THE SUN

Leo is ruled by our fiery luminary, the Sun, that dazzling celestial body that governs life, creativity, and vitality. Although not a planet per se, all life on Earth would cease to exist without it. The Lion certainly lives up to the billing of the Sun’s promise! A person born under the sign of Leo has a huge self-image, a fiery intensity and a consistency of drive and personality. The Sun never goes retrograde, and likewise, Leos are renowned for their stability, loyalty, and consistency.
The Sun is the most consistent measure of time in the wheel of the zodiac. The Sun visits the same spot that it occupied at the moment of your birth in one-year intervals (remember our Solar Return soap from our Gemini collection?). In astrology, the Sun is the most significant component of your birth chart (your sun sign); the sun represents how and where you desire to shine. Your most noteworthy tendencies, distinctive characteristics, and motives are influenced by your sun sign. It reflects how we present ourselves to the world and is linked to our ego, will, personal strength, and creative expression.
Just as the sun illuminates everything — offering warmth, sustenance, protection — Leos have a magnetic presence that generates powerful energy. Leos feel most at home when they’re positioned comfortably in the center, radiating warmth and confidence. Their natural charisma draws others in, but they’re most fulfilled when their intrinsic light is reflected back by those in their orbit.
The fiery powerful energies of the sun can be used to bolster Leo's self-confidence. However, it is important for the celestial Lion to remember that their light is never obscured by others, and the bright shine of others' success does nothing to their own. Ultimately, Leos' own hubris is the greatest threat to their happiness.

Our Sun perfume roller is a dazzling, complex citrus burst that radiates sunny vibes! Bright lemon and zesty grapefruit notes lead with an effervescent warmth while an herbaceous heart of lavender, thyme, and mint transports you to a sunny afternoon in the garden. A burst of spicy ginger offers an unexpected twist of sophistication alongside soothing sandalwood and light musk. Energizing and joyful!
Well, I feel we would be remiss if we didn’t at least mention the Titan god of the Sun, Helios (brother to Eos). The ancient Greeks characterized him as the personification of the Sun itself.
It was said that as Helios crossed the sky, he observed and heard everything that his light touched on Earth.
Our beloved farm-to-skincare Helios artisan botanical soap bar is a bright beauty in our skincare collection. Featuring soothing aloe vera, carotenoid-rich carrot puree, brightening turmeric, gentle chamomile, and our favorite botanical skincare ally, sunny calendula! This one is a standard in our facial bar lineup and well loved for its bounty of skin bennies!
TAROT CARD: STRENGTH
Each Zodiac sign has a corresponding tarot card from the Major Arcana that symbolizes some of its characteristics. The artwork of the traditional Rider-Waite deck is what is used to make comparisons to the Zodiac signs**. Leo is ruled by The Strength card of the Major Arcana and is packed with symbols connected to the Leo sign. The connection between Leo and the Strength card is symbolically obvious, but also literally represented.

In the Strength card, the lion is the most prominent figure -- making this the most obvious connection between tarot and the zodiac. In addition, the card itself is wreathed in sunny Leo colors - radiant yellows and golds. Those born under the Leo sign are fearless; both emotionally and physically powerful - their strength runs deep. In the Strength tarot card, this duality is represented by the bold lion being embraced by a gentle maiden tenderly stroking its powerful open jaws, symbolizing her control and leadership over this majestic beast. The maiden is dressed in a regal white robe with floral sash and crown to represent royalty, bravery, and honor, characteristic of our gallant Leo.
Above the lion and the maiden, you can see the Roman numeral 8, denoting that Strength is the 8th card of the Tarot deck, and August (Leo's month) is the 8th month of the year. In numerology eight is a power number, symbolizing leadership, authority, ambition, and resilience. Also, note the infinity symbol in the sky above their heads (a sideways eight), representing limitless potential for growth and transformation and endless opportunities, as well as karmic energy and the interconnectedness of all things.
The lion in the Strength card represents essential human emotions such as passion, courage, and desire. Much like Leos, the lion symbolizes a powerful and dynamic energy that can both inspire and intimidate. This fiery nature is a hallmark of Leo, who approaches life with enthusiasm and determination.
Moreover, the Strength card serves as a reminder for Leos to embrace their inner strength and resilience. It encourages Leos to tap into their innate courage and face challenges with grace and empathy. While Leos are known for their assertiveness and power, the Strength card highlights the importance of tempering these qualities with kindness and compassion, to “tame the beast within”. Ultimately, it teaches Leos that true strength is expressed through a balance of power and compassion. Strength calls upon you to use your radiance and power for positive purposes.
Our Strength card smoothing body silk aromatic blend is a bright and lively citrus and floral symphony. Zesty orange peel awakens the senses while a floral heart of rose petals, jasmine, and neroli soften the tune. A grounding base of oakmoss and amber lend a lasting potency to this gorgeous blend. Transcendent!

**Please take note that while our discussion points on tarot refer specifically to the artwork of the classical Rider-Waite cards, the artwork on our lotion bottles is unique and doesn't necessarily contain the same artistic elements.

It encourages Leo to embrace their unique talents and bask in the spotlight with unwavering self-assurance and authenticity.
Citrine can also help when Leo’s ego and head are getting too big. It helps to identify and heal issues around misuse of your power and authority. As a sacral chakra stone, this gem supports your need for emotional connection and openness with others.
Sunstone can also help Leo to evolve and heal ego issues. It can reveal self-serving motivations and narcissistic tendencies so that Leo can make course corrections. Sunstone has a transformative quality that can alchemize lower emotional states, such as resentment or anger, turning them into a lighter, more positive expression.
Onyx Onyx is regarded as a powerful stone of protection and strength. It serves as a spiritual shield, guarding its wearer against negative energies and influences while providing grounding and stability to the bold Leo personality. Its energy can help to amplify Leos' innate creativity and passion, as well as fostering a mindset of self-improvement, encouraging them to take calculated risks and embrace transformational experiences. Its resilient nature serves as a reminder that through adversity, both strength and growth can be attained.
Carnelian Carnelian, associated with both the Sun and the fire element, has a storied history as a stone of motivation and courage. With its vibrant and energizing presence, Carnelian is believed to ignite the fire within, infusing Leo individuals with vitality and empowering them to pursue their ambitions with confidence, courage, passion, and action.
During this Leo season, embrace carnelian’s fiery energy, trust your instincts, and embark on a journey of self-expression and personal growth with confidence.
MYTHS & MAGICK
SIRIUS GATEWAY AND THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER
The brightest of all the stars dazzling in the night sky is Sirius, the “Dog Star.” It is the brightest star in the constellation Canis Majoris, aka Greater Dog, and shines prominently in our summer sky. In the summer, Sirius rises and sets around the same time as the sun. Sirius is so distinctive that ancient stargazers blamed it for multiplying the intense heat of midsummer - you know, those hot, humid, and hazy days like right now! - so coining this season as the “dog days of summer”. It just so happens that this period aligns with sunny Leo season!
While our Sun is obviously the true “light bearer” and responsible for summer’s heat and its life-bringing gifts, it’s no wonder that the ancients revered Sirius. The Sirian star system is comprised of 2 distinct stars (and a hypothetical third “red star”). The largest, the one we see as the brightest star in all the heavens, is Sirius A, outshining our sun 10x over, but is only 3x the mass of our Sun! Sirius B, a white dwarf star, while invisible to the naked eye, packs almost the entire mass of our sun into a sphere only four times as large as the Earth.

Curiously, approximately every 50 years, these two stars come as close together as their orbits allow, creating huge magnetic storms between them. The intense energy that is created when this event occurs is said to flow through magnetic lines to all other planets in the Universe. Some spiritual masters believe that the resulting Sirian energies stimulate both the best and the worst in humanity and even attribute the crisis of WWII to the Sirian magnetic storms. Reaching back into time, the Egyptians considered Sirius’ astronomical movements as the basis for their calendar - its heliacal (meaning “at sunrise”) rising marked the beginning of the Egyptian year and roughly coincided with the flooding of the Nile, both major events marked by feasting and celebration. The ancient Egyptians also considered Sirius to be the star of the Goddess Isis, who rules over the cycles of death and rebirth.

The Sirius Gateway Portal is a yearly alignment when Sirius rises in the sky, perfectly aligning with the Sun and Earth. The Sirius Gateway opens its celestial doors from July 2nd to July 7th annually. In ancient Shamanic cultures, this gateway was believed to be a portal to the Gods, and journeys taken through the Sirius Gateway were said to bring Divine messages. As Sirius, aka our "Spiritual Sun," aligns with our Sun, it floods the Earth with high-frequency energies that can elevate consciousness and awaken dormant spiritual gifts. In modern astrology, Sirius also holds the vibration of freedom. (Remarkably, our Independence Day here in the U.S., along with the equivalent celebrations of freedom across the globe, coincide with the timing of the Sirius portal!) Its energy can help us to release limitations and allow us to express our true selves. This energy of freedom can also act as inspiration, helping us to manifest our goals and dreams into reality. Let the light of Sirius guide you on your path, illuminating your true potential and aligning you with the cosmic dance of the universe!
SIRIUS ARTISAN BOTANICAL SOAP
Of course, as dog lovers we wanted our Sirius soap to artistically represent the “dog days of summer” as an ode to our beloved fur friends! And we're excited to announce that 15% of proceeds from these bars will be donated to our friends at Turtle Pants Farm, a local animal rescue that provides a safe haven for animals in need. In fact, we’re partnering up with Turtle Pants Farm to host a pet adoption event right here at our little shop in Pittsboro on Aug 10th, in the midst of the dog days of summer! Look for deets on social media as we’ll be getting more info out to you soon. We’re even planning to formulate a few special pup-worthy products! ;)

This bar shouts "come play with me" vibes! Stamped with a pitter-patter of adorable paw prints for your delight!

LION’S GATE PORTAL
Sirius’ cosmic gateway and its high frequency energies linger well beyond the activation of the Sirius Gateway in the early days of July. The Lion's Gate Portal is another significant cosmic event occurring during this season - one that is steeped in mysticism, spirituality, and transformative energy. Occurring annually between July 26 and August 12, with its peak potential crowning on August 8 (8/8), this celestial alignment is believed to bring powerful opportunities for spiritual growth, manifestation, and connection with higher realms. The alignment of the Sun, Earth, Sirius, and Orion’s Belt creates this powerful energetic gateway, emphasizing personal empowerment, spiritual awakening, global transformation, and societal evolution. In numerology, 8 represents balance, abundance, and infinity, making 8/8 a particularly auspicious date for setting intentions and manifesting desires. As you may recall from our earlier discussion of the Strength card, the number 8 is highly symbolic during Leo season.

To connect with the auspicious energies of the Lion’s Gate, here are some powerful practices you can add to your rituals:

LYNX MOON: AUGUST 9, 2025
For centuries, people have followed the cycles of the moon, using its phases to guide planting seasons, celebrations, and religious observances. Full moon names were a significant part of ancient cultures worldwide, reflecting their connection to nature and the rhythms of life. These names held deep meaning and were closely tied to the natural world.
Lynx Moon is one the known Celtic names for the August full moon. While it's not entirely clear why this particular name was chosen, the threads of history and myth lead us on a twisting, mystical journey that unravels this mystery. The first lynx connection is most likely derived from the Celtic "lug" (meaning light, luminous, lunar) and also the word lynx itself, derived from Ancient Greek, meaning to shine, a reference to their light reflective eyes. Another key to the lynx symbolism in this season is the celebration of Lughnasadh (loo-na-sah), a Celtic harvest festival celebrated on August 1st, and named after the God Lugh. Lugh was a popular Sun God, worshipped throughout the Celtic world - his familiar was said to be none other than the lynx. The elusive lynx was once a native cat of Scotland and Britain until it was driven to extinction during the Middle Ages. Lughnasadh celebrations honor the fruits of our labors in the garden and specifically the grain harvest which would feed people throughout the winter.
Roman mythology tells of Triptolemus, the demi-god of sowing and milling wheat, who was sent by the goddess Demeter to teach agriculture to the world. While teaching King Lyncus, the king began plotting the murder of Triptolemus as he slept. As he raised his sword to commit the deed, Demeter transformed him into a lynx. Demeter's role in bringing forth the harvest mirrors the themes of abundance and sacrifice present in Lughnasadh.
The lynx, with his bright, otherworldly eyes symbolically brings clarity to spiritual matters, keen intuition, clairvoyance, and the ability to see hidden truths. The lynx’s keen eyes were frequently compared to the glow of amber. Ancient Greek philosopher Theophrastus claimed that lynx urine solidified into the semi-precious stone amber - an organic crystal made of ancient tree resin that seeped from trees in ancient forests. As the resin hardened, it encapsulated prehistoric insects, organisms, and plant matter, and gradually it fossilized under the sun’s rays, returning in time to the cradle of earth’s embrace. We can use the ancient earth energy of amber and the lynx in meditation to tap into ancient wisdom, the value of patience and perfect timing, reminding you to wait for the right moment to pounce on opportunities.
Our Lynx Moon bars illustrate a bright marmalade moon rising above a dark forest. A forest of hand-painted conifers (happy little trees!) dominates the foreground. Truly a sight to behold!
The aromatic palette will transport you to a Scottish meadow in late summer where untamed thistles bloom ubiquitously all over the countryside (it is the Scottish national flower for a reason!). Dry aromatic notes of sage and eucalyptus are artfully balanced against energizing yuzu and zesty orange peel. A deeply herbaceous green heart of sweet clover and pine forge an earthy grounding base.
Unique and undeniably alluring!
Our animal allies will be delighted to know that there is currently a grassroots effort aimed at reintroducing the revered lynx to the Scottish Highlands.
LUGHNASADH
The Wheel of the Year is an ancient Celtic calendar based on festivals that celebrate our innate connection with nature, and the ebb and flow of the light and dark as the Earth makes its journey around the sun. The calendar revolves around eight festivals, from Imbolc to Yule – each one signaling a shift in the season, weather, and the natural world around us. The purpose of the calendar is to offer a deeper connection with nature and Mother Earth, as each season offers new gifts to be celebrated. Observing and honoring each of the cyclical seasonal stations (or sabbats) of the Wheel of the Year allows us opportunities for intention and reflection.
Traditionally celebrated on August 1st, Lughnasadh (aka Lammas) signifies the midpoint between the Summer Solstice and the Autumnal Equinox. These dog days of summer are sticky hot, and you spend your time finding ways to keep cool. Gardens and farmlands are ripe with veggies in shades of dark green and yellow, trees hang heavy with ripe fruits and grapevines sag with promise. This season is lush and abundant, and although the sun is strong and hot, nature is already beginning to sense the coming of colder winter days. This is the beginning of the first harvest where everything is poised and waiting - waiting for that perfect moment when the crop is at its optimal best and the weather is just right. The start of harvest means that we are moving into a time of plenty. So begins the days of preparation: gathering seeds to plant next spring, harvesting herbs and grains, canning jams and jellies, and baking bread to store for the cold days ahead. This is a time for gratitude, personal growth, and renewal.

The Celtic name for this day, Lughnasdah, derives its name from the Celtic God Lugh. Lugh is God of Sun and light, and so fires were burned in honor of him on this day. In addition to his associations with light, Lugh is a God of Skill and Craft, a master of all human skills, craftsmanship & prowess. On this feast day, it is particularly appropriate that we celebrate our own abilities and skills. It is a time to ask ourselves: What are my talents? What are my skills? How do I express my creativity? How do I use my abilities to re-craft my world, to add beauty, color, richness? Whatever our talents or abilities, this is a time to recognize them and honor them, and to share our recognition of the talents and abilities of others around us. If you have had an interest or urge to develop a particular skill or creative outlet, now might be the time to make a pledge or commitment to yourself to pursue your interest. By offering the fruits of our labors back to the Universe we enrich both ourselves and our world.
Our lively Lammas ritual perfume roller is a soothing herbaceous blend that's perfect for late summer revelry. Top notes of tart blood orange, Mexican lime, and Italian bergamot offer a refreshing opening while airy heather and light florals add a romantic summer meadow vibe. Base notes of fresh thyme, mint, sage and fennel round out the finish alongside hints of pine and white musk for glowing warmth. A base of calendula infused sunflower oil, a few calendula petals and a single oatstraw top offer seasonally appropriate correspondences. Moss agate, aka "the gardeners stone" helps us attune to the energies of the garden while carnelian helps us accept the circle of life.
URSA THE GREAT BEAR
Have you noticed the prevalence of an animal theme in this collection? Ursa the Great Bear is the final piece in our animal sky puzzle this month!
Most of us are familiar with the Big Dipper; it was likely the first (and perhaps even the ONLY!) star formation that many of us learned to identify. This vibrant group of stars is visible year-round, even in places with light pollution and is very recognizable. The dipper is not a constellation itself, but is called an “asterism” which is a collection of stars. The Big Dipper is our map to viewing Ursa Major, who stands on the back of the Lion constellation. The Dipper itself comprises just the bear’s tail (the dipper’s handle) and a small part of the bear’s back (the ladle is just above the bear’s hindquarters). In the picture above you can see the dipper is just part of the larger bear. You may notice that the bear’s tail is much longer than an actual bear tail! Well, of course, there’s a story for this!
One story from Greek mythology is that Ursa Major represents Callisto,a nymph of extraordinary beauty and a devoted follower of Artemis, who bore a child with Zeus (who, of course, in classic Zeus form had disguised himself and seduced her!). When Zeus’ jealous wife, Hera, found out, she turned Callisto into a bear. (Some versions of this story claim it was Artemis who punished poor Callisto as her followers were sworn to vows of chastity.) Then one day Callisto’s son was out hunting and saw a great bear, not realizing it was his mother. To prevent the imminent tragedy, Zeus intervened and threw them both into the sky. Callisto became Ursa Major and her son, Arcus, became Ursa Minor. It is said that the strength of Zeus’ throw caused the short stubby tails of the bears to become elongated.
A recurring theme that runs through mythology is the kinship of bears and humans. Bears can lumber along on all fours, or stand up on their hind feet and gesture with their front paws. Ursa Major, in its travels throughout the heavens, constantly changes from quadrupedal to bipedal positions, seeming to run along on all fours nearest the horizon and then rising to its hind feet to begin the ascent back into the sky. There have been many fairy tales and fantasies written about people taking the form of bears. In some cultures bears are regarded as gods.
We took some creative liberties with our Ursa bar, LOL! The design resembles a bee rather than a bear. With bright yellow and black swooping stripes and chunky hexagon and honeycomb embeds, there's no mistaking the vibe! But what's a bear's favorite snack? Honey! This warm summery blend combines sticky sweet honey notes with bright bergamot and juicy mandarin for a lush and luminous aromatic experience. Soothing sandalwood, dark musk, and creamy tonka create a soft and lasting foundation for this radiant scent. Potent & captivating!

If you’re still following along, we have a modern perspective on the myth of Ursa Major to leave you with…. In modern times, the myth of Callisto is often interpreted through a feminist lens. The story is seen as an illustration of the vulnerability of women to the power of the patriarchy, with Callisto being victimized by the actions of the gods. We can, of course, connect this to the viral hypothetical question of whether a woman would rather choose the bear to be alone with in the woods versus a man. The bear serves as a metaphor for the perceived safety of an animal that acts predictably, even if dangerous, compared to the unpredictability and potential danger of a man in a vulnerable situation. This seemingly simple choice reveals a deep-seated fear and distrust of men due to the prevalence of violence and harassment women experience in their daily lives. Women are constantly adapting their daily behaviors to ensure their safety, with every decision involving a “what if” moment, while men walk about their days without a fleeting thought for their own safety. Choosing the bear is a way for women to voice their concerns and experiences, hoping to make men understand the everyday realities of living with the threat of male violence. It's a call for men to acknowledge the problem and work towards creating safer environments for women. Sadly, it seems a vast majority of women would choose the bear. It is far past time for society to rectify this injustice and inequality. And yeah, for the record, I would sure as shit choose the bear.
