SYMBOL: THE SCALES
ELEMENT: AIR
PLANET: VENUS
MANTRA: I trust the process and find strength in my inner wisdom.

Ahhh, the seasonal shift into fall is unmistakable - cool breezes bring refreshment to our spirits, signaling the end of summer's zenith and the embrace of autumn's softness. The Fall Equinox marks the halfway point between the Summer and Winter Solstices, when both day and night are of equal length - a time of balance - and the midway point of the Zodiacal year (which begins with the Spring Equinox). The first half of the year represents a period of outer growth, self-discovery, ego and identity formation, and the second half is a period of inner growth, shadow work, deeper emotional connections, and integrating into a broader community. Right now at the turning point, everything turns inside out and upside down. Opposites meet, and polarities balance. The light and the darkness calibrate. Virgo was the harbinger of this time of introspection and internal growth, while Libra serves as a pivotal point shifting focus to balance and interconnectedness.
LIBRA TRAITS
People born under the sign of Libra are peaceful, fair, and strive to create equilibrium in all areas of life. Symbolized by the scales of balance, Libras are fascinated by balance and symmetry, and detest messiness and chaos.
Libras are renowned for their captivating natural charm, effortless elegance, and harmonious, positive spirit. They have a unique ability to blend confidence with empathy, creating an atmosphere of harmony and ease around them. They see the best in all people in all situations. Libras are ruled by the planet of Venus, and we know that Venus is the planet of love and beauty. Venus captures the mood of the Libra perfectly - they love to be surrounded by good vibes, (lots of) admirers and companions, and beautiful things - from high art and stunning objects to exquisitely aesthetic home design to a flawless physical appearance.
Libras are witty, smart, and excellent conversationalists. Libras' diplomatic skills and artistic flair allow them to express themselves in ways that resonate deeply with others. They choose their words carefully and aim to find common ground with as many people as possible. They have active imaginations and are quick on their feet, which makes them great company- and great problem solvers. Libra is a cardinal sign (signs which mark the start of a new season and thus are characterized by their ability to create momentum and take action), which means Libras are accordingly great at launching new initiatives, and (ahem) relationships, making them valuable allies in business ventures and fun adventure companions.
There are few signs more extroverted than Libras. Libras love being with people, and they love meeting new people, too. One of the most notorious Libra characteristics is their love of love; it’s even said that Libras get easily love drunk! They thrive on companionship, and they surround themselves with interesting people that can introduce them to new things.
Because Libras consider multiple perspectives in all pursuits, these air signs struggle with indecision and will easily override their convictions to appease others, or even to bait others into action. This is someone ready to do nearly anything to avoid conflict, keeping the peace whenever possible. Libras also struggle with owning up to their faults and facing their problems, and will put off difficult discussions for as long as they can. This conflict-averse approach can make Libras appear flighty, insincere or superficial, agreeing with others to keep the peace rather than expressing their true feelings. Instead of constantly seeking outside perspectives, Libras would do well to develop (and trust) their own intuition, embrace assertiveness, and prioritize their own needs.
Final lessons for our Libra friends: Don't hesitate to let your true colors show. Be honest with yourself. Be the great and loyal friend that you are, and don't waste time on people who judge you for your compassion and idealism. Don't think of these things as negatives, just a part of you that might need some extra attention.
Libra artisan botanical soap
The eternal quest for justice and balance in both life and death has been a human pursuit throughout all time and cultures. In Ancient Egypt, the feather was deeply intertwined with the concept of divine justice, especially through the feather of Ma'at, the goddess who personified truth, order, and balance. A deceased soul's worthiness of the afterlife was determined by weighing their heart on a scale against a feather. The feather, symbolizing the purity of the soul, dictated whether the individual had lived a just and moral life. A heart lighter than the feather granted the soul entry into eternal paradise; a heart heavy with guilt and wrongdoing led to the soul's annihilation. May you live in peace and harmony, and with a light heart!
Our signature Libra bars, stamped with the constellation, enjoy a vibrant palette of warm fall colors in a distinctive feather swirl pattern. Uplifting bergamot and lemon top notes are deftly balanced with the sweetly ethereal, resinous depth of white copal, a treasured resin used in rituals and ceremonies for purification and for carrying prayers to the divine. Patchouli and tonka ground this sophisticated, earthy scent.
THE SCALES
Libra is represented by the Scales, an age-old symbol of divine justice, harmony and balance, an association that perfectly reflects Libra's natural inclination for balance and harmony.

The Scales are one of the most recognized legal symbols in the world, alongside the female figure of Lady Justice. Here in the U.S., our Capitol is generously adorned with the image of Lady Justice holding the scales in one hand and often a sword in the other (symbolizing the power to punish injustice), and sometimes blindfolded (a symbol of impartiality). Indeed, images of America's goddess adorn the entrances to all of the major federal government buildings in Washington, D.C. She stands guard atop the Capitol Building and from behind the Speaker of the House's podium. Lady Justice watches, protects and guides from atop her silent perch; encouraging her subjects to set aside selfish desires and serve her in faithful submission.
Outside the Supreme Court building stands the Contemplation of Justice statue by sculptor, James Earle Fraser. This seated female figure holds in her right hand a smaller standing figure, a blindfolded Lady Justice cradling a set of scales against her heart. The Genius of America pediment at the East Central entrance to the U.S. Capitol building is graced with three distinct figures, individually representing America, Justice and Hope. In the center we have the female figure symbolizing “America”, who rests her right arm on a shield inscribed "USA" atop a pedestal inscribed July 4, 1776”. Her left arm points left to our Lady Justice, holding the scales in one hand and the Constitution in the other. To America's left are an Eagle and the female figure of Hope, who rests her arm on an anchor. The Justice and History sculpture by American sculptor Thomas Crawford sits above the senate doors, featuring 2 female figures reclining upon a globe; Justice holds a book inscribed “Justice/Law/Order” in one hand and a set of scales in the other hand; History holds a scroll inscribed “History July 1776”. There are many more depictions of the scales and Lady Justice around our Capitol, including the base of the lamposts outside the Supreme Court plaza and even inside the courtroom itself. How is it that we as a nation have come to forget her, despite her ubiquitous presence amongst the nation's most prominent institutions of power? Our leaders, lawmakers, and judges see these symbols every day and yet their clear message and symbolism seem to have faded from their thoughts and actions. We are facing a profoundly sad era in American democracy where truth and justice are carelessly discarded and stomped upon. How far we have fallen from the noble intentions of our founding fathers. :( In the iconic words of George Washington himself: the due administration of justice is the firmest pillar of good Government.

The Scales constellation may not be the flashiest constellation of the zodiac, but its two brightest stars have the best star names: Zubenelgenubi and Zubeneschamali. The ancient Babylonians apparently associated this constellation with balance. Quite possibly, they made this association because the sun on the autumnal equinox shone in front of the stars of Libra at that time. It’s at the Equinox - the midpoint between the Summer and Winter Solstices - that the world realizes its seasonal and temporal balance between the extremes of heat and cold, and with day and night of equal length all over the globe.
In contrast to their Babylonian forebears, the ancient Greeks seemed to regard Libra as the outstretched claws of the constellation Scorpius the Scorpion. In fact, the names for Libra’s two brightest stars are Arabic terms that hearken back to these olden times when Scorpio reigned as a double or super constellation. Zubenelgenubi translates into the southern claw of the Scorpion and Zubeneschamali into the northern claw of the Scorpion.
In Roman thought, the constellation Virgo is the embodiment of Astraea, the Starry Goddess, holding Libra, the Scales of Justice. According to mythology, at the return of the Golden Age, the Goddess Astraea will dispense justice and weigh the souls of men, much akin to the story of Ma'at. More on Astraea in a bit…keep reading, justice lovers!
Libra is a small but distinct constellation next to Virgo. Libra looks like a lopsided diamond shape atop two legs and is most visible in the northern hemisphere from April to July. To find Libra, first locate the Big Dipper and follow the curve of the handle down to the bright yellow star Arcturus. Follow a line from Arcturus towards the horizon to the bright white star, Spica, the hand of the Virgo maiden. Look a little west from there and you will spy the Virgo constellation.

THEMIS - GODDESS OF JUSTICE - LIBRA SEASON RITUAL BATH & BODY OIL BLEND
As we’ve been discussing, a common representation of Justice is a blind-folded woman holding a set of scales. You’ve seen her before, standing in front of a courthouse, etched in stone or bronze, elegant and unwavering. She’s called Lady Justice today, but long before she was carved into marble, she had a name whispered on Mount Olympus: Themis. For the Greeks, Themis was the embodiment of divine or natural law, order, and justice. As the daughter of Gaia, her order is rooted in the rhythms of Earth herself. It is said that Themis established the Oracle at Delphi and her talent for prophecy inspired our modern depiction of Lady Justice. Blindness represents fairness and impartiality as well as the gift of prophecy. But Themis has never been depicted blind-folded; she doesn't carry a sword, she wasn't vengeful and she didn't threaten nor punish. She saw everything clearly and simply spoke the truth. And that, somehow, was always enough. What she offered to a world born of chaos was cosmic balance.
Themis may not have dealt out punishments to perpetrators and wrongdoers, but she shared a temple at Rhamnous with Nemesis, the Goddess of Divine Vengeance and Retribution. Nemesis is what happens when you ignore Themis’ proclamations. She handed out punishment for evil deeds, undeserved good fortune, and hubris. Nemesis, whose name literally means “to give what is due,” was tasked with restoring order to the universe while acting as an avenger for both mortal and divine crimes, ensuring that the offenders face the consequences of their actions. Her very existence served as a reminder that every action, whether divine or mortal, has consequences. In artwork, Nemesis is rarely shown without a hard stare and grim frown that screams “I’m very disappointed.” You reallllly don’t want to end up in her crosshairs. Just ask Narcissus and Aura…you may have heard their tragic stories (a fun rabbit hole for you to explore on your own!).

It would seem that in our chaotic modern times today, we could use a heavy dose of divine justice and the restoration of order. If praying to “our almighty God” isn’t your thing, or ahem, doesn’t seem to be working, maybe it’s time to call on these divine ladies to right the wrongs. And just maybe, if enough of us do that, we’ll see order restored and retribution realized….before too much more suffering and pain is felt among the innocents. It’s game on…tick tock.
Our Themis bath & body oil aromatic blend is an elevated experience with a flawless balance of airy and earthy notes. Uplifting bergamot and lemon top notes are deftly balanced with the sweetly resinous depth of white copal resin. Patchouli and tonka complete this sophisticated, earthy scent. Ethereal and elegant.
AIR ELEMENT

The four elements - Earth, Air, Fire, Water - are key components associated with each astrological sign. Tuning in to the language of the elements throughout each season of the year can offer powerful guidance for self-growth and awareness, helping one cultivate a deeper connection to the Universe and the Divine. When we honor and accept the interconnectedness of our place within the natural world and its inherent energies and influences, we can be empowered to manifest the world we want to live in.
The elements speak to the core essence of each sign, and each element influences 3 signs. Elemental magick features prominently within each Celestial Sol zodiac product collection. The scent profiles for each product are intrinsically tied to the element for that sign, with a nod to seasonal appropriateness. And every collection features an element specific product. From body sprays to bath salts, we'll have exciting new offerings every month that we hope you will love.
Air is the element through which so much travels. The air element is our breath, the most necessary and invisible function of the human body. Air is thoughts. Air is language. Air is ideas, possibilities, conversations, connections, and transmission.
The spoken word is considered by many to be the most important air tool of all. Words of love from someone you care about can fill your heart with joy. Conversely, hurtful words can cause us a lifetime of trauma. The words we speak create so much of what we perceive as possible in our lives. Learning how to express ourselves confidently and in a way that supports and maintains our personal power is one of the most important tools for lasting, positive change. Your voice is a gift - the world needs your perspective, your insights, and your truth. When you share your voice, you give others permission to share theirs. Together, we create a ripple effect of authenticity, courage, and change. Speak your reality into existence. Let your voice be heard. It matters.
FEATURED ELEMENTAL PRODUCT: ASTRAEA AROMATIC BODY MIST
Long, long ago when the gods still walked among the mortals, there was a time called the Golden Age. It was an idealistic time, when people were virtuous and no evil existed in the world. People lived in harmony with nature, there was no hunger, no war, no cruelty, just balance. Amongst the Gods that lived alongside the mortals was Astraea, an Olympian daughter of Zeus and Themis. Astraea embodied justice, fairness, and innocence, and she cared deeply for humanity. But as time stretched on, and the Golden Age was eclipsed by the Silver, Bronze, and finally, the Iron Age, the human race became progressively crueler and more corrupt, and the world fell into disarray, creating endless wars and consuming the earth’s natural gifts without a thought. The earth groaned beneath the weight of its own corruption, kindness was a ghost, justice exiled, virtue mocked, and truth drowned beneath a tide of lies. One by one, the gods abandoned the earth, retreating to Olympus in disgust. Nemesis urged Astraea to leave and return to Olympus with the rest of them, but Astraea believed so strongly in human potential that even as the world around her unraveled, she held onto the tiniest sliver of hope that peace would return, so she stayed to offer her guidance and support to humanity. But eventually, after centuries of trying to heal what had broken, Astraea realized she could not do it alone. Heartbroken, Astraea decided to abandon humanity forever and live among the stars as the constellation Virgo, thus claiming the name “The Star Maiden”. While she may no longer live among humans, her promise of divine justice continues. Ancient Greeks prophesized that Astraea will return to Earth someday to usher in a new Golden Age for humanity. She offers hope that even in dark, troubled times, justice will ultimately prevail.

Our Astraea aromatic blend is an enchanting walk through a mythical moonlit forest! Brisk ozone notes mingle with the crispness of ripe apple and green florals. Grounded by the familiar warmth of patchouli, vanilla, and cedarwood, this spellbinding scent offers a purifying energy. Breathtakingly beautiful!
PLANETARY INFLUENCE: VENUS
Ruled by Venus, the planet governing love and beauty, Libras naturally gravitate toward harmony. In Astrology, Venus has dual rulership over Libra and Taurus. As a result, Venus represents two main areas of our life: love and money.

“Love and money” is actually a simplistic interpretation of Venus. Venus rules our sentiments, what we value, and the pleasure we take in life. Grace, charm, leisure, sensuality, comfort and beauty are all ruled by Venus. Through Venus, we learn about our tastes, pleasures, artistic inclinations, and what makes us happy. Venus rules attachments to others. It rules attractiveness–both the ability to attract and attraction to others (and things). Venus energy is harmonious, and this is why people with Venus prominent in their charts are often peace-makers.
Venus, named after the Roman goddess of love and beauty is usually considered a feminine planet. However, there's a duality to Venus that is also relevant to Libra. The origins of Venus have always suggested that her feminine and masculine qualities were equal, in part due to her morning and evening star phases. Venus as an evening star has a more balanced and serene energy. Venus as the morning star is more masculine, aggressive, and forceful. Venus, as ruler of Libra, idealizes love and has an innate understanding of the give-and-take that comes with all relationships and encourages and supports Libra's basic nature.
Our Venus perfume oil succinctly captures the delicate dance of feminine and masculine Venusian energy with a sensuous floral bouquet of voluptuous magnolia blossom and sultry jasmine dancing in rhythmic tune with intoxicating plumeria. Anchoring notes of masculine-leaning tobacco leaf, vetiver and dark vanilla round out this exotic treasure. Romantic and luxurious!
TAROT CARD: JUSTICE
Each Zodiac sign has a corresponding tarot card from the Major Arcana that symbolizes some of its characteristics. The artwork of the traditional Rider-Waite deck is what is used to make comparisons to the Zodiac signs**. Libra is ruled by the Justice card of the Major Arcana.

The harmony-seeking duality of Libra is heavily represented in the Justice Tarot card and this correlation is one of the clearest connections between the Zodiac signs and tarot cards.
The central figure in the Justice card is a regal woman holding a balanced golden scale in her left hand. Justice arms herself with a double-edged sword in her right hand, her sword pointing upward, signifying a firm and final decision, victory and restored balance. Nestled in her crown of authority is a sparkling green gem that acts as a third-eye chakra, allowing her to utilize her intuition to see simply and clearly what has before been hidden in the shadows. Coming to any decision, she weighs both her intuition and logic to balance the karmic laws of the universe.
Diving deeper into tarot symbolism, the swords suit in tarot embody wisdom and intellect, logic and reason, aligning with Air signs like Libra. Further, the color green - depicted in Lady Justice’s coat and crown - signifies harmony, balance, and money. It can also symbolize prosperity, fertility, healing, growth, and peace. The number 11 also features in this card - not only is Justice the 11th Tarot card, but the balanced and symmetrical shape of the number 11 is even mimicked in the stone pillars behind Lady Justice. In numerology, 11 is considered a “master number” tied to intuition.
At its core, Justice is about truth. For Libras, it calls for a deep dive into what our inner truth is. Justice also tells us to look at the balance of logic and intuition in our lives.Consider, too, how your choices affect the well-being of both yourself AND others in your sphere of influence. Can you stand by your decisions and own the consequences of your actions?
The Justice Smoothing Body Silk aromatic blend seamlessly marries fresh breezy ozonic top notes of eucalyptus and white tea with a crisp heart of cypress and pine. The woody warmth of cedar, juniper, and a touch of amber in the base complete this serene scent.
**Please take note that while our discussion points on tarot refer specifically to the artwork of the classical Rider-Waite cards, the artwork on our lotion bottles is unique and doesn't necessarily contain the same artistic elements.

MYTHS & MAGICK
BLOOD MOON: October 6th, 2025
For centuries, people have followed the cycles of the moon, using its phases to guide planting seasons, celebrations, and religious observances. Full moon names were a significant part of ancient cultures worldwide, reflecting their connection to nature and the rhythms of life. These names held deep meaning and were closely tied to the natural world.
While “Hunter’s Moon” is the most common name for the October full Moon (owing to the opening of hunting season for game animals), it's also the start of spooky season and that means it's the witching season, of course! The Pagan tradition often names the October full moon the Blood Moon (or Sanguine moon), which is tangentially related to hunting as well. This particlar October moon is a super moon, meaning that it appears larger than a typical full moon because it's closer to Earth (the first of three supermoons in a row!). Technically, though, a blood moon generally refers to a total lunar eclipse (which occurred on September's full moon). So while the October moon isn't technically a blood moon as there isn't an eclipse, this full moon occurs in the sign of Aries (the opposite of the Libra sun sign on the Zodiac wheel). And if you've been following us all year, you know that Aries is ruled by Mars, the planet of war, action, and well....bloodthirsty battles. So we think Blood Moon is a more than appropos name for this moon!
This moon also falls just two weeks before Samhain (Halloween), aka the Witch’s New Year. Spiritually, this is a threshold moment - one foot in the harvest, one in the descent. It invites you to release fear and dead weight, and prepare your spirit for transformation.
In keeping with the fiery energy of this full moon, our Blood Moon bar is a virtual reality trip to Mars with a blood-red moon rising over the rocky, crater-pocked surface of the red planet. We've given this bar a seasonally-appropriate aromatic palette with spicy cinnamon notes dominating the nose. Zesty orange peel and notes of resinous fir are wrapped in the warm embrace of peppercorn, clove, ginger, nutmeg, and cardamom. Invigorating and sophisticated!
MEDUSA: from Gorgon to Justice Icon
In Greek mythology, Medusa is infamously renowned as one of the most fearsome entities to ever live - a Gorgon with venomous snakes instead of hair, possessing the simple yet potent ability to turn those who gazed upon her face into stone. History is quick to make Medusa out to be a monster. Greek mythology hails Perseus as the hero that defeated her serpents and stony gaze. But the truth can be twisted to fit any narrative, as we well know.
So who was Medusa, really? Firstly, she was a devoted priestess - selflessly serving Athena, and holding a sacred place in her temple. Then this beautiful, innocent young maiden was attacked and violated by Poseidon, right there in those halls of divinity. Medusa was then punished, exiled, shamed, and turned into a monster by the very deity she worshipped. She became feared by all - her gaze so lethal she was forced into hiding. And finally, she was hunted like game and executed for sport. She never asked for any of it.
Beyond the surface, Medusa’s story is layered with themes of transformation, power, victimhood, and resilience. Medusa’s legacy has evolved from a feared monster to a powerful symbol of resilience and transformation. She is celebrated by feminists who view her tragic suffering as offering lessons on victimhood, justice, and reclaiming our feminine power. Medusa has even played a role in the modern #metoo movement. When artist Luciano Garbati created his sculpture of Medusa holding Perseus’ severed head, he was simply trying to flip the script and imagine Medusa’s story from her own perspective. He had no idea his sculpture would be reimagined as a symbol of justice and triumph for victims of sexual assault. When the 7-foot tall sculpture was unveiled in Lower Manhattan, just across the street from a criminal courthouse (the very same courthouse where Harvey Weinstein was prosecuted a decade later), a news release advertised the statue as an “icon of justice”.
LEFT: Medusa, Arnold Bocklin, 1878; RIGHT: Medusa with the head of Perseus, Luciano Garbati, 2008
Modern witches call upon Medusa as a symbol of protection and transformation. In fact, in ancient Greek, her name translates to “guardian” or “protectress.” Her serpentine aspects can be associated with wisdom, healing, and the cycle of death and rebirth. For those who work with goddesses, Medusa may represent the aspect of the Dark Goddess—fierce, protective, and embodying the wild, untamed aspects of the feminine.
Medusa’s lesson? Don't let them dictate who you are. Let the mythos of Medusa live on as the embodiment of righteous rage, feminine power, and sacred wisdom.

Our Medusa soap design will surely catch your eye (wink!). A bright palette of purple, orange, yellow and teal, accented by thin black swirls may not immediately bring to mind snakes, but if you look closely enough at some of these bars, you might just discover a hidden nest of snake-like figures. Snake eyes and slithering shapes will capture your attention the longer your gaze lingers! But don't worry, we promise you won't get turned to stone! ;)
Our Medusa blend is a captivating and mysterious blend of dark intensity. Tart black currant and juicy blackberry notes form the dark heart of this rich blend, punctuated by sweet anise and spicy saffron. Dark musk, tonka and amber enhance the intensity, imbuing this scent with a mystical quality.
Our own Lady of Justice....Notorious RBG

RIP noble one.... we certainly miss you.
Psst...have you noticed that many of our photo backdrops this month bear a striking resemblance to RBG's iconic white lace collar?? ;)
