New Orleans, a city renowned for its rich cultural tapestry and mystical allure, has long been a haven for stories of the supernatural. Among its eerie legends, one name stands out – Marie Laveau, the infamous Voodoo Queen. Marie was born in 1794 in the French Quarter, the first of her family to be born a free person of color. Marie was raised in her artistrocrat father's plantation house and was a devout Catholic. She worked as a hairdresser catering to the wealthy white women of New Orleans, keeping their secrets about their husbands, lovers, and business affairs. In her late thirties, she studied under Dr. John, a voodoo practitioner, mastering its rituals and gaining a reputation for her mystical powers. She became a voodoo priestess, performing ceremonies that blended Catholicism and African spirituality, and would soon come to be known as a preminent figure in Voodoo culture. Marie's legendary talents did not fade with her passing in 1881. Rather, it morphed into something more profound – a haunting presence still lingering in New Orleans’ shadows. Locals and visitors alike have reported encountering her ghostly figure, often near St. Louis Cemetery No. 1, where she’s believed to be buried. Her legacy lives on not only in the stories whispered in dark corners but also the cultural fabric of New Orleans.

We've scented Voodoo Queen in an intoxicating blend reminiscent of a vintage jazz lounge in the Quarter - warm lights, soft haze, velvet curtains, smooth jazz, a sidecar cocktail, and a stogie - pure magick! Zesty orange rind and cream liqueur spike the heart of this legendary blend. Muddled raspberries and smooth orris root weave a complex tapestry that glitters like a slinky sequined dress. As it settles, warm amber, rich benzoin, and sensual musk glow like embers, rich and smouldering.
As with any candle, size matters! Small candles are best suited for small rooms with normal ceiling height. Think bathrooms or smaller sized bedrooms. The larger the room size, the larger the candle(s). Consider the 8-10 rule: for scent to permeate the entire room, position one 8oz candle for every 10ft of room radius. It’s all about discovering the perfect match between your candle and your room. Remember to allow your candle, no matter the size, to burn for at least one hour, or until the wax pool reaches the edge of the container, to prevent tunneling. We ALWAYS recommend that you ensure a FULL MELT POOL on your first burn of any candle (that means the wax is completely melted to the edges of the container). Candles have a memory and the first burn is crucial to the candle's future performance throughout its life. Don't limit your candle's potential!
