Unknowingly he desires himself, and

the one who praises is himself praised, and,

while he courts, is courted,

so that, equally, he inflames and burns.

How often he gave his lips in vain to the deceptive pool,

how often, trying to embrace the neck he could see,

he plunged his arms into the water,

but could not catch himself within them!

What he has seen he does not understand,

but what he sees he is on fire for, and

the same error both seduces and deceives his eyes.

— Ovid, Metamorphoses, Book III, trans. A.S. Kline

Mayhaps you will recall that earlier this year we crafted a Narcissus (daffodil) candle and relayed the Greek myth of Narcissus, the tale of a handsome boy who was so stunningly handsome that he was warned from birth to avoid his own reflection for the fear that once he saw himself, he could never love another. When young Narcissus was rebuked by the beautiful nymph, Echo (the poor girl already cursed by Hera and doomed to repeat the last words she hears), he became distraught and stumbled to the edge of a reflecting pool, whereupon he inadvertently saw his own reflection for the first time in his life. Convinced that he was in love with an exquisite water nymph (his reflection), Narcissus refused to leave and thus perished right there, still staring at his own reflection.

Today we can parlay that mythos into a new lesson. Certain arrogant, narcissistic persons (ahem!) are currently being taken down by a certain reflecting pool. And certain other people are happy to Echo that person's mindless rantings. So there we have it.... history doth repeat itself. Wink wink! We invite you to join us on this dive into the murky pool of mythology and mayhem.

Our Reflecting Pool candle sports a beautiful heirloom ceramic tumbler in shades of blue and green. So apropos. ;) We've scented Reflecting Pool in an atmospheric blend that captures the quiet stillness of a clear lake where the cool morning mist rises off the water and the air is heavy with the scent of ancient evergreens and the remnants of a crackling lakeside fire. A natural sanctuary where peace and raw beauty reign. Refresh your spirit and discover that deep well of hope in your heart.

As with any candle, size matters! Small candles are best suited for small rooms with normal ceiling height. Think bathrooms or smaller sized bedrooms. The larger the room size, the larger the candle(s). Consider the 8-10 rule: for scent to permeate the entire room, position one 8oz candle for every 10ft of room radius. It’s all about discovering the perfect match between your candle and your room. Remember to allow your candle, no matter the size, to burn for at least one hour, or until the wax pool reaches the edge of the container, to prevent tunneling. We ALWAYS recommend that you ensure a FULL MELT POOL on your first burn of any candle (that means the wax is completely melted to the edges of the container). Candles have a memory and the first burn is crucial to the candle's future performance throughout its life. Don't limit your candle's potential!

This listing for one approx 10+ oz ceramic tumbler with cork lid; 60-75 hour burn time. Read and heed all candle warnings (bottom of container) and candle care guidelines (underside of lid). Please burn your candles responsibly and with care and intention.
