Polaris, aka the North Star, has a rich and storied history in history, mystery, astronomy, navigation, and mythology. Polaris’s fixed position to the Earth’s axis makes it (almost perfectly) the mark of true north. Even in early civilizations, the North Star was used by many cultures for navigation due to its fixed position in the sky. Early sailors coined it the "mariners' star" and used this star as a reference point long before the invention of compasses for traveling the globe to unknown far-flung lands. If you have no other tools with you, like many explorers before you, you can find your bearings by spotting the North Star.
The North Star’s symbolic meanings resonate deeply across spiritual and personal contexts. The star’s fixed position represents finding one’s true path and staying aligned with personal values. It serves as a beacon of hope during difficult times, reminding us that constancy exists even in chaos. The concept of a "personal North Star" is used as a metaphor for one’s deepest goals and values. Fruther, many traditions see the North Star as a link to the divine, symbolising higher wisdom and purpose. Polaris was linked to Isis, the Mother Goddess who symbolized life and protection. It was believed this star would protect travelers and help those who passed find their place in the afterlife.
Perhaps the most widespread myth about Polaris, is that it is the brightest star in the sky - in reality it ranks 48th. The importance of the North Star lies not in its brightness, but rather its location. Polaris marks the handle of the Little Dipper (Ursa Minor). Located almost directly above Earth’s north geographic pole, the planet effectively looks like it’s rotating around the North Star. As all other planets in the night sky appear to move during the course of the night, Polaris seems to remain unchanged - when in reality, it traces a very small circle over a 24 hour period.
Our limited edition Polaris bars depict merrily festooned trees amidst a frozen landscape beneath a night sky ribboned in shades of blues. A single solid gold star shines atop each bar, while a scattering of tiny star eco-glitter adds a festive touch. Our Polaris bar dazzles with its delicately ephemeral yet complex aroma. Shimmering top notes of eucalyptus and sage mingle with lemon and bergamot for a crisp burst of clarity. The green heart of fig and whispers of rose lends subtle depth, while amber and musk create a clean, softly sweet finish. Although this scent is a seasonal offering for us, this graceful blend easily transcends seasonal boundaries with its beautifully balanced profile.
