In Homer's The Odyssey, after the crew departs Circe's island, Odysseus and his men land on an island inhabited by the Lotus Eaters, a gentle people who only consume the fruit of the lotus plant. The lotus fruit kept the eaters in a drowsy, languourous stupor - inducing them to be in a perpetual state of lethargy and forgetfulness - so much so that they completely forget about returning home, preferring instead to hang out on the lotus island and eat lotus fruit. Odysseus drags his sailors weeping back to the ship and ties them to their oars in order to escape the Lotus Eaters’ island.
The revered blue lotus flower, aka the Egyptian blue water lily, has been used since Egyptian antiquity as a narcotic that can induce euphoria and vivid dreams. The ancient Egyptians were said to have thrown intimate soirees, rolling around in beds of lotus flowers while imbibing wine steeped in the petals - essentially psychotropic orgies! Usage: Shake well before use. Spray generously all over body, paying particular attention to areas of exposed skin. Allow to air dry. Repeat as desired. Do not spray directly onto face. Avoid contact with eyes, armpits and mucous membranes. Do not apply to broken, irritated, or itching skin. May be skin sensitizing to some individuals. Perform a 24hr patch test on a small area of skin if you are particularly prone to sensitivity before widespread application. Discontinue use immediately if any irritation occurs.
