We're all curious about what the future holds in store for us. Crystal gazing, aka crystallomancy, is defined as "the art of divining by figures which appear on the surface of a crystal ball”. Contemporary accounts noted that just before a vision appeared, the interior of the sphere would seemingly "mist up from within". Since the middle ages and even to this present day, crystal balls have long been linked to traveling cultures and Romani people who carried this tradition from India to Europe.

Crystal gazing, palmistry, cartomancy, and other forms of fortune-telling were quite popular during the Victorian era (along with seances!). In the mid-19th century, many traveling peddlers earned money by advertising their services as fortune tellers or “fate ladies.” Professional practitioners were invited into some of the finest drawing rooms in London and were paid handsomely for their ability to enthrall the nobility. Crystal gazing was a particularly popular form of fortune-telling during this era and experienced, charismatic scryers were often in high demand. For the fraudsters and charlatans, however, there was the constant risk of being sentenced to prison or hard labor under the Vagrancy Act of 1824.

Our Forchun Tellin' bars bring cheeky fun to your shower! A black "crystal ball" glitters with magick potential over a round purple base. We've scented these cute bars in an aromatic medley of peppercorn, clary sage, and coriander. An earthy heart of moss, patchouli, and chamomile forge a grounded atmosphere. Smells like stepping into an Old World apothecary. We predict you'll love them!
