Edelweiss, like the snowdrop, is an alpine flower native to the Swiss/Austrian Alps. Its adaptation to hostile mountain terrain makes it a protected keystone species and a valuable pollinator plant. The name edelweiss comes from the flower's distinctive star-like shape. Swiss men in the 19th century were known to show their bravery and dedication by traversing steep and dangerous mountain terrain in order to pick edelweiss flowers for their beloved as a symbol of their undying love. Thus, the plant is considered a symbol of courage, a talisman against bad luck, and a symbol of eternal love and fidelity.
Why Edelweiss? This plant's storied history and iconic ballad of the same name, as popularized by The Sound of Music, offers us rich symbolism in today's world. The flower has been worn on the sleeves of German mountaineering soldiers since WWI. Towards the end of the Second World War, the Edelweiss became the symbol of the German resistance against Nazism. The “Edelweiss pirates” were groups of young workers who had turned against Nazism and were active as a kind of urban guerrillas against the regime. In The Sound of Music, Edelweiss is sung by the character Captain Georg von Trapp as a symbol of Austrian patriotism and defiance, as he defies pressure to join the Nazi party and the Von Trapps then flee to Switzerland. Our Edelweiss Whipped Cream Cleanser is a gentle cleanser with serious moisturizing power. We formulated this cleanser as an antidote to harsh winter weather and it's drying effects. It's fluffy, pillowy, creamy consistency is an absolute dream that belies its magical ability to dissolve makeup and remove dirt, while leaving skin soft and supple. Edelweiss is up for the challenge!
Usage instructions:
With the provided wooden spoon, scoop out approx a teaspoon sized portion and massage gently into DRY skin to cleanse and remove makeup. Wet fingertips and work cleanser into a milky lotion, gently massaging in a circular motion all over face and neck. Use a warm, wet cloth to wipe gently, then rinse off completely. May be used morning and night as a main cleanser, or followed with a face wash or facial soap if you double cleanse. Follow with your usual skincare routine (toner, moisturizer, etc).
