“Hot lavender, mints, savory, marjoram,
The marigold, that goes to bed wi’ th’ sun
And with him rises weeping. These are flowers
Of middle summer, and I think they are given
To men of middle age.”

Lavender, Mint, Savory, Marjoram and Marigolds: The Winter’s Tale (Act 4, Scene 4), Shakespeare

Midsummer’s Day coincides with St. John’s Day on June 24th, immediately following the Summer Solstice on June 21st. This is a time for celebrating the raw power of the Sun and the height of the harvest season for witchy herbs like lavender, St. John’s Wort, and many more. The bright sun is high in the sky, butterflies flitting about, bees-a-buzzing all the day long, lavender and lemon balm perfume the air with their soothing scents, while the balmy evenings stretch into carefree, languid festivities. Summer is the season to look outwards, enjoying the ample warmth, light and freedom. At Midsummer, the magick in the air is abundant and intensified, and the veil between our world and that of the fae is at its thinnest - a time of enchantment, mischief and blessings!

Lavender is an all-purpose magickal herb, promoting relaxation and peace. In magick, witches are said to prize the herb for its ability to increase clairvoyance, and a mixture of chamomile, lavender, mugwort, and rose petals is said to attract sprites, fairies, brownies, and elves. On Midsummer, go to a place where the faerie are known to congregate, inhale a sprig of lavender, and you may be treated to a visit from the faerie folk. But be forewarned, inviting in the fae on Midsummer’s Eve may have unanticipated consequences!

Lavender’s botanical name is derived from the Latin lavo or lavare, meaning "to wash". Since ancient times it has been used in soaps and toiletries, noted for its clean, calming scent and cleansing properties. The Elizabethans used to place the dried flowers amongst their linens and on warm, sunny days ladies would spread their undergarments on lavender bushes to dry them and absorb the sweet fragrance. Bundles of the herb would be steeped in their bathing water. Tudor girls made lavender tea and hid sprigs under their pillow to help bring about visions of their ‘true love’ in their dreams, while newlyweds stuffed lavender into their mattresses to help encourage marital bliss.

Our Midsmmer's Dream bars showcase all the loveliness of the lavender plant! As we approach Midsummer in the South, the lavender comes into full bloom, carrying its fragrant, soothing scent throughout the garden. A calming palette of soft green with a purple swirl offers restful vibes.

We've adorned the tops with hand-textured soap representing lavender stems that shimmer with purple mica and a touch of gold.  These bars are scented in bold herbaceous lavender, gently softened by a hint of sweet mandarin and warm sandalwood. A soothing embrace for summer!
